A Week With Halle, Our Granddaughter

7:27

8:06
I was up just after 6:00 to a cloudy sky and what I thought was a coming rain.  Now, at 7:00, however, the clouds are starting to break, blue skies gather behind us and it looks as though we may have two or three nice days at the lake, much different from yesterday's forecast.  I am not complaining.

Halle, Back At The Lake
Yesterday was our first full day with Halle, our 12-year-old granddaughter and it was a fine first day for her on the lake.  Lots of sun, not too hot, in fact, compared to Virginia, it was chilly and at times she had to get out an extra shirt or pants.  We did not do anything special, preferring to spend the day at our house.  Because there was a threat of rain early, Evie was out cutting the lawn by 10:00, just in time to avoid literally a 30-second rain fall.  I worked on the bushes, giving them a trim, pulling out the strangling weeds that tend to choke them out.  And I weed whacked in the back yard, around the stones and flower beds.  I like my new battery powered weed whacker.

Enjoying The Lake With Granny
After our chores were done, about 11:30, all three of us went out to enjoy the sun and water.  Halle was a bit reluctant at first to get into the water but was soon moving around easily, swimming, getting up and down the ladder with ease despite the operation on her foot a month ago.  She is clearly making good progress and may not need a cane by the end of the week.  I had gotten out floats so both she and Evie hung out on both the floats and the dock.  I was soon bored so I got out the rake and started cutting more lake weeds until it was time for our Sunday breakfast, eggs, bacon and bagels.  Halle was really hungry, clearing her plate, loving the bacon and bagel.

The rest of the afternoon was one of leisure, either on the dock or in the house, taking a break from the sun.  Halle really seemed to enjoy sun bathing with Evie with an occasional dip to cool off and I got back out in the water to do some more weed cutting.

Dinner With Daisies
We stayed out till about 5:30 when Halle started to get cold.  We went in and while Halle relaxed with a nice cold class of Pot Of Gold chocolate milk, Evie made dinner and I set the table outside.  We were having pork schnitzel, baked potatoes, cauliflower, and salad.  It was a perfect evening to eat outside, sun behind the house, lake blue, no insects and a great dinner.  As usual, Halle devoured her salad and cauliflower then picked at the rest of her dinner, perhaps having filled up on another glass of chocolate milk.  We thought about going for a boat ride but our neighbors, the Leonards, invited us over to their house to enjoy their fire pit and make smores.

Smores With Joyce And Bill
So we sat in their yard until dusk waned, about 9:20, talking and roasting marshmallows.  We had enough time before bed to watch another episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.  We are getting into it.  And around 10:30, Halle could hardly keep her eyes open so she went up to bed.
