The Big Empty

7:10

It's after 7:00 and I am listening to Only A Game on NPR.  It's a bright, sunny morning and it feels as if the outdoors is squeaky clean, a result of close to three inches of rain over the past two days. Things feel fresh, the yards, garden, and lake.  It's cooled off some, 62º at at the moment, a high of 72º, a perfect day.  I ought to be out kayaking. Well, it's 9:00 and I just got back from kayaking and I ran into our neighbor, Kathy, also out to enjoy an early morning paddle.
Kayak Morning

Our Neighbor, Kathy, Happy To Be Back On The Lake
Yesterday was sad making as we drove Beth and Marisa to the airport, leaving at 9:30, getting home to an empty house at 12:30.  It's always depressing when the family heads home and for a couple of days, we will feel bereft until we get back in our routine, used to the 'big empty.'  Usually, after a family vacation, both of us are filled with the desire to put the house back in order until we collapse. Yesterday, however, neither of us had much want to, so a good part of our day was spent taking it easy, occasionally rising to do something, like clean the kitchen, before quickly sitting back down with our devices.  And it rained off and on during a good part of the afternoon, so we did not venture outside much, just once to wet our line with no luck and missing Marisa.

Stormy Weather
Around 6:00, we had a Manhattan and some appetizers as we listening to the falling rain once again.  It was a good way to end our boring day, listening to music and talking about the fun we have had over the past three weeks both on the road and on the lake.

Caught In The Downpour
We had leftovers for dinner, what else, the vodka pasta and chuck roast and we caught up on some of our TV like Better Call Saul and Real Time with Bill Maher.  Both of us could hardly stay awake during the the last show, so it was a pleasure to go upstairs to bed.

Today we have our neighborhood picnic at 5:00 but other than that and a trip to the Transfer Station, we have no plans on our card .
