A Panoply Of Sunsets And Sunrises

They Are Back, Amanda From Connecticut, And Marisa From Texas

A mostly cloudy morning on the lake although some muted sunlight has broken through the grey. The purple martins are noisy, waiting for the arrival of their babies in a couple of weeks.  The barn swallows, however, who are nesting under our dock already have their nestlings, two or three eager beaks looking for food.  It's a pleasant 66º and may get up to 80 later in the day.

We were both up earlier than usual, so before I went to yoga we got some stuff done because Beth, Marisa and friends from CT were arriving last night until Saturday.  So we got right to work, making beds and organising the upstair bedrooms. I even did some weed whacking and cleaning of windows, working up enough of a sweat to take a swim before driving off to yoga for the first time in at least a week.  I have been a bad boy.

I drove to a good yoga class and it was like I forgot how to do yoga but it's always this way after a hiatus; it's like a new beginning but you catch on quick.  I then drove to Ryder's Cup, ordered at Joyce's recommendation the New Orleans special, ice coffee with cane syrup and half and half, not exactly a healthy drink.  I then went to Sam's for stuff for our dinners and came home with a humongous floating island for the kids to enjoy in the water this summer.  None last very long so we limp along with a partially deflated craft until I break down and buy a new one, like yesterday.

Lunch was another quarter of my hoagie from Wegmans.  And then some reading, a short nap and then outside, to look for things to do.  Evie decided to cut the lawns, so she was busy for a good hour, taking time out occasionally for water breaks because it was so hot and humid.  By 6:00, the yard looked like a country club and dinner was already made, a pot of sloppy joes.  So we relaxed for a good hour or two on our front porch, with a spiked lemonade, enjoying the late afternoon, early evening, waiting for our daughter Beth and friends to arrive.  They were scheduled to arrive around 8:00, have dinner with us, enjoy the evening.  Unfortunately, they had car trouble in Darien and did not get off until 3:00.

Paddling Into The Setting Sun
8:41 At Rest
Around 8:30 we finished up the last of the lemonade and chips and instead of having sloppy joes, we stepped into our kayaks and paddled across the lake, hoping to catch the setting sun.  We sat off of Long Point for 15 or 20 minutes, talking to a couple sitting in chairs, also waiting for the sunset.  I don't know why we don't do this more often.  Perhaps last night was perfect for sunset watching, no wind, warm, and a clear sky.  It dropped behind the horizon at 8:55.

We then paddled home, warmed up the sloppy joes, had dinner and watched another confusing episode of FARGO.  What a disappointing season.  And we waited and waited until 11:30 when headlights lit our yard and our visitors pulled into the driveway, happy to be off the road and back at the lake.  The girls quickly ran out on the dock to see the lake, then disappeared upstairs to their bedroom.  We talked with Beth and Nancy for awhile but all of us were tired and were in bed by midnight, hoping for some good weather over the next couple of days.
