Topsail Beach, North Carolina |
It's now 6:00 and both Evie and Marisa were up before me. It's strange to look at a backyard instead of the ocean, as I am sitting here in Virginia, waiting for the rest of the family to get up so we get on the road for the last leg of our journey back to the lake. The kids cannot wait...neither can Evie and I.

So, we left Tom and family behind at Topsail (they were driving to the Raleigh Airport at 9:00) and were on the road by 7:30. Our GPS said a six hour drive, and we expected a 7 which is ultimately what we ended up with, getting home just after 2:30. We were in no hurry, stopping three or four times, the last a 7/11 who were giving away free slurpies because, of course, it was 7/11. The girls liked theirs but Evie got a brain freeze; I guess that's her last slurpy. Interstate 95, the highway from hell, was not bad until we got near Richmond when we slowed down to almost a stop, then it was stop and go driving for an hour of crawling along. About 1:30, we got a call from the Bissells, who were ahead of us. They were stalled on the side of the road with car trouble, probably transmission problems. So, they had called a tow truck and a taxi and drove home in class, a bit later than they had hoped. We met them at the door, then I drove off to the auto shop, where the tow truck was dropping off Drew, transferred most of the beach items to my Pilot and we drove home. While I was gone, Jill took her two daughters to Urgent Care because both were not feeling well. O, yea, Drew borrowed my car to go pick up the dog, Coco. So the rest of us sat in their house, waiting for everyone to get home. Not exactly the way we planned the trip home from Topsail but at least we are home. I have seen enough of Interstate 95 and traffic for awhile...get me home to Chautauqua traffic.

While we waited for Jill and Drew, who went to pick up Coco from his parent's house, we sat bored, not sure what to do with ourselves in a strange house, no ocean or lake but the girls' found the trampoline. Drew finally got home as did Jill around 6:30 so we decided to order out some Thai, as noone was interested in cooking and we had leftover pizza of course. So Jill and Beth went out to get the take out, pick up the prescriptions from CVS as Halle did have an ear infection and, of course, the pharmacy at CVS closed at 6:00. So after we ate, Drew and I drove into Manassas around 9:00 to pick up the prescriptions about 20 minutes away from a CVS that was open, a nice way to end the day, on the road again. We were all exhausted from the drive, the hassles by 10:00 and went to bed, I am sure, to a good sleep.
