Saying Aloha To Topsail Beach, Hello Chautauqua, But Not Till Sunday

We are all up early because, for some reason, like everyone else on this coast, we want to get an early start.  I don't think there's such a thing as an early start when you hit Interstate 95 up through North Carolina and Virginia.  It is always busy; we just have to be lucky.

Morning With Baba
Yesterday, perhaps because it was our last day at Topsail Beach, was the best beach day of the week. We were slow getting out, no one in a great hurry because it was warm early, little breeze but Evie and I were out by 10:00, and everyone followed in the next hour or so and for the most part, someone was on the beach for the rest of the day, until 5:15, when Drew, Tommy and I took our last swim, brought in all the beach paraphernalia, washed it down, and either put it in the garage if it belonged to the house, or on the roof of Drew's car, ready for our drive tomorrow.

Picture Taking
Anyways, it was a crowded day at the beach, as everyone, like us, was sucking the last ounce of sun, sand and water out of the beach because most will be leaving for home tomorrow.  We lined up the chairs, moved them back as the tide came in, and cracked open beers around noon, showing some discipline!  The girls are reluctant to go in the ocean, so they went to the pool both in the morning and afternoon.  The boys skim boarded on and off during the day, getting better and better, showing off their skills to their audience of aunts and uncles.  Some went for a run, Mary and Nick, as Hayden and Drew took the day off.  Both Halle and Hayden were not feeling great so they spent much of the day inside, with occasional short trips out.  And both took good naps, which we hope will help them feel better before they get to Chautauqua.

Around 1:00, Tom and I drove to Jacksonville, NC, about forty five minutes, to pick up a rent a car. We realized it was going to be too much of a hassle to take him to the airport, with all our bags and kids.  It's a two and a half hour drive for him, and not too expensive so it was a good option.  It took us a couple of hours, going and coming, but neither of us was interested in beaching it in the middle of the day.  When we got home, around 3:30, we hit the beach, surprisingly pleasant despite the high temperatures, and we enjoyed out last hours on the beach with the kids, occasionally jumping in the water to cool off, or better yet, having a beer, the good life.
Relaxing With My Grandsons
We ordered a ton of pizza and wings for dinner; we could have invited the neighbors on both sides and we would have had enough.  Now we have enough for dinner tomorrow in Bristow, at the Bissells.  After dinner, around 8:00, Drew helped me stuff the car to overflowing with clothes and assorted things for eight people, yep, eight of us are going to Chautauqua.  I don't know how we did it, but we did, and we are all packed except for individual backpacks for each one of us.  They will have to stay on laps or at our feet because there is no more room.  Period.
The Week Ends
After packing we watched the US/Haiti soccer match and after all that pizza, the gang is eating ice cream for dessert.  It's been a good day except for packing!  All of us up to bed by 10:00.
