Yesterday it was predicted to rain off and on during the day. It didn't. The rains started last night around 8:00, the day remained dry. We were at sixes and sevens, waiting really to start our trip to the beaches of North Carolina. I did go to Jamestown, to the dealer, as my headlight went out. Not cheap, 18 bucks for a light bulb. I also went to the library, looking for something to read, then stopped at both Tops and Wegmans, picking up a few things for our trip. We were planning on a big shopping day for Wednesday, stocking up for the arrival of our family after our trip to Topsail. I did not get home till 11:30.
It was nice out, at least the lake was mellow, so we got in a nice kayak paddle before lunch, paddling down to Wells Bay and back, again feeling like the only boats on the lake. I guess all the visitors are waiting for the weekend because the lake has been surprisingly empty all week. We had left over Cubans for lunch and watched The Daily Show.
We had a minor problem with our whole house water filter mid afternoon. We bought new filters from Home Depot which supposedly would work with our system. They didn't and we had to fool around with old filters to get the water to work, the joys of home ownership. After that, both of us were frazzled because we were afraid we might have to call the plumber, again. He's become too good of a friend the last few months. We knew we would get nothing done the rest of the afternoon, so I suggested doing our mega shopping, getting it out of the way, so we could relax on Wednesday and just worry about packing for our trip. It was a good idea; we hit the hardware for new water filters, then Wegman's for a big shopping. On our way home, we were shocked to see a pick up truck parade by, flaunting a large Confederate Flag; I guess I should not be surprised.
We could not wait to get home, unpack everything and go out on the dock with a beer because it was sunny and warm. Everything was put away in ten minutes and we were out on the dock, enjoying the late afternoon. When it began to get chilly, as the wind picked up and the sky started to darken, we went in and Evie made an easy dinner, our usual Sunday breakfast actually, eggs, home fries and bacon. And I had a bowl of beans and potato soup, just to finish off the meal. And we had a salad of course. We could not find much to watch on TV. I sort of liked a new series on Sundance called Deutschland, about an East Berliner who crosses over and becomes a spy in West Germany. We will have to wait and see how good it is. I am not crazy about my book, SOUTH OF BROAD, but I will continue with it.
