A Wet 'Chautauqua Grey' Morning...Back To Normal

6:27
It's after 7:00 and I have been up for almost an hour.  Everyone is still sleeping, and they all need it after a week at the beach, a busy Monday of swimming and sun here at the lake.  Lots of martin activity, as the babies are crying for more food.  A blue heron has popped down on our dock a couple of times looking for fish, and little action on the lake, a couple of fishing boats.  It's cooled off, 68º, a welcome relief after the past two days in the mid 80's though I am not complaining.  The girls commented on how much cooler yesterday's 80's were in contrast to the beaches 90º days.

Yesterday did not start well, with Hayden coming down at 6:30 with a bad headache.  Evie gave her some Advil and she went upstairs and slept another three hours in our bed.  Fortunately, the other three, who also had minor problems, woke up feeling better, more energetic.  Both Evie and I were up at 6:00, still tired some from our week, but at least we slept some.  I left to do some shopping before the girls even got up, picking up some sand (for an anchor for our floats), then stopping at Wegmans for a mega shopping visit, then the liquor store, then the hardware store, and finally home. While I was gone, Evie and Halle made her buttermilk pancakes for eight.  Fortunately, some were left for me.

After breakfast, Mitch and I immediately set to work blowing up our floats and rafts.  It took about an hour and now our lake front is filled with five floats of various sizes, for the girls to jump and play on.

It turned out to be a great day at the lake, warm but a nice breeze, perfect for being on the dock and swimming and diving.  The girls must have gone in to swim at least five different times during the day, playing on the mattresses and floats, then going into the house for lunch, or to relax in their rooms, or read, whatever.  Then back out to play the jumping game, where they jump off the dock and have to answer a question before they hit the water.  They love it and are able to make up all sorts of fun games.  They also spent time in the yard, rolling out the comforters and yoga mats so they could do some gymnastics in between their swimming.  Lunch was a brief hiatus, various sandwiches and Evie's homemade vegetable soup.
Bosom Friends
Mid afternoon we went tubing, though my boat's motor seemed to lack guts, so we were only able to go 15 miles an hour.  After 15 minutes, we went in and I called my boat guy, to see if he could come over to check it out.  Boats, like houses, are money pits.  Later in the afternoon, Evie put together our dinner of lemon chicken, rice and broccoli.  After she put it in the oven, we relaxed for an hour while the chicken baked, Evie playing bocce with Mitch, Beth and I sitting on the dock, watching the girls swim and dive and jump, playing various games.  Dinner was great; everyone was hungry and we had hardly a piece of chicken left, a good sign.  After dinner, Evie took the girls out kayaking, balancing three of them on her kayak, while Hayden, now feeling better, paddled the other kayak on her own, running into docks, like one of the  go carts in dodge em.  She got better.  The night ended with Beth and me on the dock, with the girls, swimming as the kayaks were put away.  It was time, then to watch Hayden's favorite show, The Fosters, and all the girls had bowls of ice cream, with chocolate sauce, sprinkles, and whipped cream of course.
Hayden, Feeling Better
It started to rain about 10:00, just about the time we all went up to bed.  All the girls seemed much better, no headaches or sore throats, so we look forward to a good day today despite the fact that rain is forecast for much of the day.
