A Hot and Humid Fairfield Prep Graduation Sunday Morning

Sushi Dinner at Kazu in Norwalk
Sushi Boats

I am up early, at 6:15, and Ramiro's sister and mother were already up with their dogs.  It's 66º out right now, going up to 86º later in the day,  as we have to be on our way my grandson's graduation by 9:00.  The ceremony starts at 10:00, at the Fairfield University Forum, which I assume is not air conditioned, so it's going to be a hot and sweaty morning in the gym.

We had an easy drive from Chautauqua to  Darien, in fact, for the first hour and a half, we never passed a car nor were we passed it was so empty.  When we got to eastern New York state, traffic picked up of course, but it took us our usual seven hours plus, door to door.  We left at 7:00, got in around 2:15.  The ride was beautiful, so different from a couple of weeks ago when the trees were just starting to turn.  Now there are huge mounds of rich, green mountains, on both sides of the road, their color not yet beaten down by the summer sun.  When we arrived, Rami, his mother and sister were at Marisa's soccer game, so only Beth and Tyler were home.  Mitch was at volleyball practice; his team will be in the Division II State semifinals on Tuesday, so they are pretty excited.  Rami and Marisa got home around 4:30, so we hung out, I took Cody for a walk, and we got ready for Tyler's favorite dinner, sushi at Kazu's.

We left around 6:30 and had a table reserved for nine.  Dinner was amazing, great appetizers, like sea weed salads, endaname,  and I ordered an amazing spicy Kim Chee soup with veggies, noodles, and sea food.  The sushi platters, as the pictures show, are a work of art and we devoured them, not too difficult with this crew, all of whom love sushi, especially the boys. They know the names of the good rolls, Dragron fly, The Great Kazu, Rainbow, Lady Love, Red Dragon, and Tiger... it was a great way to celebrate Tyler's high school graduation.  The only trouble with sushi is that it's not the kind of meal linger over, though you could I suppose.  We just jumped right in and finished it off, with little talk other than what's this or that.  Next time, we should all try the same roll, discuss it, share our opinions, savor it, then move on to the next.  Do I sound like an old boy or what.  And it would never work with my grandsons, who just want to eat.

We got home around 8:30 and I took Cody for another walk, and Mitch, Marisa, and Rami rode their bikes with us, in the dusk. Mitch and Marisa love to do this, so it was fun to have Rami along as well.  They raced up and down the street, seeing who could ride the longest without hands.  I remember doing this when I was a kid.   It was a warm night, and I even worked up a sweat just walking up and down their hilly street.  When we returned, Evie wanted to give Mitch his present, something we were unable to get him for his birthday two weeks ago.  I had taken a picture of Mitch and his buddies long boarding on a neighboring street.  There were twenty or thirty of them, and they were having a kind of jamboree.  Evie took the digital picture to Walmart, cropped it, and had them put it on a large canvas, wrapping the picture even around the sides.  It was really cool, a tree lined streets, with kids of all sizes and shapes long boarding down this hill.  He liked it even though he wasn't in the picture, alas.  We were all very tired, except for the boys, so we went up to bed before 10:00, ready for a great day on Sunday
