Mac and Dale at Stedman Coffee Shop |
Well, it's the first major frost of the fall, around 26 degrees at the moment, so we brought in all of our geraniums and set them on newspaper in our back hall until Evie has time to trim them and we get them situated on the various sunlit window sills of our house. Or we will put them outside again, for a few weeks, hoping it warms up, which it will tomorrow. The sky is light blue, waiting for the sun to rise over Bemus in about twenty minutes.
Yesterday, I spent the morning with my friends from out East, as they had some time before heading to Hudson and Reserve. We sat around reading the newspaper, checking out computers and listening to the radio as Evie prepared us a great breakfast, of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and coffee. Dale makes maple syrup, bottles it under the logo of Saps R US, which we had for breakfast. He always brings us a bottle as well, this year two. Around 10:00, we drove up to Stedman Corners, for a coffee and Dale bought some coffee beans to take home. We then went to the CI for a long walk, enjoying the beauty of the morning, the various colors of gardens, and unique homes. We all decided the coolest home was the Japanese inspired Mission styled home just north of Bestor Plaza, built by Mayshark about three years ago. The foundation is mostly stone, with a huge rectangular block of granite from Public School 101 from Buffalo, I suppose. We also went to the bookstore, where Mac bought a Chautauqua hat and then the library to browse a bit. June, the librarian knows I am a baker and mentioned a new bread book, Flour, Water, Salt Yeast, which I picked up and it looks quite good. We got home around 1:00, and they decided to drive the back roads, Route 426, to Erie since they were not in any great hurry. It was a fun visit.
While we walked, Evie went shopping, enjoying the afternoon at the Mall and TJ's, coming home with some goodies, of course. I read a good part of the afternoon and watched a crappy movie on TV but I am a sucker for a romance. The boy gets the girl in the end...surprise. We had leftover Iskender kebab for dinner and watched some TV, nothing special before going to bed. I am reading GONE GIRL and have mixed emotions as I know my sister Ellen did not like it much, though it has gotten good reviews. And I unfortunately read that it reminded a critic of Patricia Highsmith, which makes me suspicious immediately of why the wife has gone missing. We will see.
Today looks like a great day for a walk or hike. I also hope we can make some bread and a batch of soup for the week. It feels like that kind of day. We will see if the mojo I feel at the moment holds up.
