Frost on the Dock |
It's sixty degrees, quite a difference from yesterday's twenty seven and frost. It rained some last night when we got home from the Rod and Gun and looks like we might have showers this morning. No plans for the day, unusual for me, other than making some bread, perhaps taking a walk around the CI. We will see.
Yesterday, though cold, was a beautiful day, late in the day, it clouded up and rained. By the way, my early morning mojo, which I mentioned yesterday, disappeared mysteriously, to be picked up fortunately, by Evie, so she ended up making the soup, rye bread, and starting the artisan bread for this morning. After the soup and bread were started, we decided to walk Long Point Park and drove over as it was too cold to kayak, and parked at the end of Lake Side Drive. We walked for over an hour, through various trails, enjoying the crunching leaves, the changing vista, as what was once a green, overgrown path way has now opened up, so we can see through the woods, trees verticals, tops still somewhat green. It's so much fun to take the same path at various seasons, and see the change. We did meet a few people, as it was a Saturday but it still seems like our own private woods. I was surprised at how wet the paths were in places, but we did get heavy showers two nights ago.
In late afternoon, Evie chopped up the leaves, as we knew the rains might be coming and the lawn was covered... is again this morning, the seemingly endless fall of leaves. We got spruced up around 6:00 and went to the Rod and Gun for the prime rib special. We had never seen the Rod and Gun so crowded, and it was even difficult to get a seat at the bar. We had to wait over an hour for a table, enough time, clearly, for Evie to gamble away ten bucks, and for us to have a couple of drafts. We did talk with a cute couple from Warren, in their 70's, just friends, who told us about all the restaurants they go to in the area. When they left, another couple, Cindy and Barry Locke, from Erie sat down. They are about our age, on their second marriage, have a cottage at Chautauqua Point, and had just joined the Rod, so this was their first time. We hit it off over our last beer, so when our named was called, we invited them to sit with us. We had a good dinner, and it was fun talking with them, as they, like us, cherish the moments when they have grandchildren visiting the lake. They were up this weekend, to close things up, so we most likely won't see them again till next spring. They both worked at St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, Barry head of food services, Cindy in IT. We left them about 9:30 as they had decided to stay at the bar, listening to the band. A fun night.
