A Lake of Brilliant Blue |
I was up at 6:00, to an overcast sky, smudge of pink, a surprise from the clear mornings the past few days; it was 48 degrees outside, the high in the 50's later in the day. It sounds like it may be partly cloudy both today and tomorrow, with rain a possibility for Wednesday.
Yesterday was another beautiful day, sunny and warm for November, high around 53. We took a morning walk through the CI, most of the leaves have fallen, few people remain. There's lots of building going on as usual, mostly renovations, only one new house seems to be going up, the monster green sustainable house on the north lake front. We didn't do much the rest of the day, watched some football, read, and Evie made stuffed portabellos for dinner and some oatmeal cookies. Around 4:00, we went kayaking, on the brilliant blue lake, as the sun was already beginning to set behind our house, shading the shoreline here at Woodlawn. We kayaked over to Long Point, then back to Wells Bay, and home. It's so invigorating to be out on the water, sun out, sky clear, the lake a stark blue. A few fishing boats were out as well and a lone fisherman was just beginning to fish from the tip of Long Point. He had a two wheel cart, which carried his fishing gear. He was ready for bear.
Desolate Long Point |
Tonight at 6:00, we are going to watch Randolph High School play volleyball in the district finals at Jamestown Community College. We went last year, watched the same team, and really enjoyed the hoopla of the fans and game. They play Chautauqua Lake so it should be a crowded gym, lots of cheering, and fun. Afterwards, we will hit Taco Hut, Evie's favorite in Jamestown, a Mexican restaurant that has been around for at least twenty years.
I also spent yesterday going over the map, looking carefully to see where we can jump on the Fred Cusimano Trail which we walked on Saturday. It's twenty four miles long, beginning in Mayville, ending in Panama and it crosses many roads, making it easy to hop on a part, walk two or three miles, then return to our parked the car. It would be fun to eventually walk the entire trail, in bits and pieces, of course, though we were warned that one section is wet and muddy.
