A daily journal of our lives (begun in October 2010), in photos (many taken by my wife, Evie) and words, mostly from our home on Chautauqua Lake, in Western New York, where my wife Evie and I live, after my having retired from teaching English for forty-five years in Hawaii, Turkey, and Ohio. We have three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, as you will notice if you follow my blog since we often travel to visit them. Photo from our porch taken on 12/15/2024 at 6:46 PM

Need We Say More!
Well, we arrived in Effingham, IL, yesterday, a Friday, at 3:00 central time, 4:00 our time, a 10 hour drive. After some snow on # 86, we had a clear day the rest of the way, through NY, PA, OH, ID, and IL, about a ten hour drive. Since we were up about 4:30 and were on the road by 6:00, we were happy to stop that early and relax before going out to eat at our old stand by, Lone Star Steak House. We did meet a couple, with whom with talked for a bit, he's a middle man who sells the grains from farmers, but they came in late so we did not have much time to get to know them. The restaurant was packed, as it was a Friday night, with all the Effinghamites, a popular place. It's pretty cold out, or so it seemed, around 30 degrees, I assume, and we got back to our room about 7:30. I just hope don't wake up too early, as the breakfast bar does not open until 6:00 so I have to sleep in till 7:00 EST.
I actually slept in till 6:00, after falling asleep around 9:00; we both must have been very tired. I went down to the breakfast bar, got a couple of cups of coffee, brought them up to Evie, then went down, had some breakfast and checked my email and caught up on things. We should be on the road by 7:15 and arrive at Tommy's some time around 1:00. We cannot wait to see them.
