Listening To The Rhythm Of The Falling Rain

6:36

Nothing is as settling, as calming, as listening to a light rain falling on the roof, the bushes, the trees. It means I won't be kayaking for the next hour or two as well, but that's fine. I heard a chirping off in the distance, turned on my Merlin app, and the chirping was identified as an osprey. I just heard a bird sound I have never heard before, and Merlin says it's a Northern Flicker. It's 9:15 and I was able to avoid the rain and get in a paddle for forty five minutes.

Yesterday was not much of a day for me. It started with my lying in bed, not wanting to get up. Eventually, I did, and I followed my typical morning routine. I got my coffee, my phone, camera and earbuds and went out and kayaked for close to an hour,  spotting a couple of bald eagles and herons. I returned and wrote the blog, and Evie finished it. I wanted to do something so even though I was feeling off and drove to Ryder's Cup for coffee with a friend and then to Jametown to sign a document to be sent to the IRS, hopefully for return. By then, all I wanted was to get home. I stopped, however, at Peterson's and picked up tomatoes and peaches for Evie.

When I returned, Evie was up, doing the wash, and reading on the front porch. All I wanted to do was to lay down on my bed and read some. My stomach was bothering me but since I had no breakfast, I decided having some lentil soup might help. I watched my show and then went up to bed for an hour, feeling a bit better. The afternoon went quickly, and I still didn't feel myself, with a stomach ache and tired so we had to cancel our dinner plans with friends. Food just didn't sound good to me. Maybe it was a good thing because it started to rain, and we planned on eating outside on Pace's patio.

We sat on our porch around 5:30, as the sky darkened, the lake emptied, and it began to rain. Earlier, Evie had put together a vegetarian concoction of leftover veggies, and it actually tasted good when we had dinner, and I was able to enjoy it. We watched a couple of episodes of The Resident, and it's getting depressing watching all these old people with various illnesses, some getting better, others dying. When Evie went up to bed, I watched another episode of Unit One and a bit of the Indiana Fever game before going to bed.
