Another Boring Sunny But Warm Morning

6:28

It's 8:15 and we are both up. I was up at 6:30 and paddled for close to an hour, spotting two bald eagles and two herons, making for a good morning. Evie's out watering the lawn and our neighbor's garden because everything is turning brown from lack of rain.

Great Blue Heron

Yesterday was a bore for me. It started out as usual, with kayaking for close to an hour, having breakfast, and finishing the blog, all before 8:30, when I had to drive to Finn's, my Outback mechanic, in Niobe, about a 25-minute drive. I dropped my car, and I usually go for a walk down a forested dead-end street that ends on a creek. As I was just about to start the forested road when a neighbor said hi and mentioned that they have seen lots of bears recently, and the horseflies along the road are terrible. Guess what, I turned around and went back to Finn's, who had yet to start on my car, alas. I went in for an oil change and tire rotation and ended up with two new sway bars and a muffler kit. All told, it cost me $822. bucks and it was not finished until noon because they had to order the muffler kit from a store in Lakewood.

The Wall In Finn's Waiting Room

When I returned home, Evie was out on the dock, reading and enjoying some sun and shade underneath our umbrella. She came in briefly and made me a sandwich to go along with the lentil soup, left over from the sister's visit. I couldn't wait to get up in my air-conditioned bedroom and read and nap. I napped for maybe a half hour and came downstairs just as Evie was coming in from the dock because the breeze had died down. Both of us did little the rest of the afternoon, other than move the hose, which was watering our trees and lawn. Evie started making dinner at 5:00, but was saved by a text from our neighbors, Barb and Jim, inviting us down to their porch for drinks and appetizers. It was surprisingly cool on their front porch as we enjoyed a different view, wine, and appetizers. They, like us, have had lots of company recently, so we swapped stories until 6:45 when we headed home.

Evie quickly browned some potatoes, fried up some peameal bacon and eggs, and we had dinner. We watched a couple more episodes of The Resident before Evie went up to bed, and I watched an episode of Unit One and Fauda before joining her.
