A Very, Very, Very Good Day

7:47

8:48
It's just after 9:00 and I paddled for 50 minutes, on a surprisingly cool, 56º morning, on a windy morning. What a change from the past week of 80º+ days. Even though it's August, the lake is practically empty of any action for some reason. Have the kids gone back to school in Ohio and other states?

Another Bald Eagle

As my title to the blog suggests, Sunday was a very good day because I picked up Evie from the hospital around 11:00. She was actually waiting for me outside as I drove up, so it was an easy pickup and quick ride home. She talked with a couple of doctors after the MRI and CT scan, and they concluded that the fall created trauma to her spine, thus the loss of feeling in her legs. They don't think there will be any more problems, which is good news. She was, however, extremely tired, from not having slept all night because of her 3:00 MRI and nurses taking her vitals every few hours. The nurses could not have been nicer and showed her off to others because she looked so young despite being in her 80s. One interesting fact: they asked her if she had diabetes because, as a nurse told her, half of the patients in the ER have diabetes. Nationwide, one in ten Americans has diabetes, according to ChatGPT. Tragic

We were home by noon, and all Evie wanted to do was lie down and try to sleep, something she rarely can do during the day. So she went upstairs to nap, and I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich along with ramen for lunch and finished my series, Unit One. If I want the second season, I have to buy another streaming service. By 2:00, Evie was downstairs, unable to nap, and decided to watch TV, perhaps nap while I traded places and went upstairs to nap because I got only four hours of sleep Saturday night. I was able to nap, however, and joined Evie as we both sat on the couch, tired but happy to be home. I finally finished my novel, These Summer Storms, finally! It's one of those books that never seems to end, but you stick with it because you want to see how it ends, but the ending never satisfies.

Neither one of us did much the rest of the afternoon, of course. We wondered about dinner, so I suggested Kentucky Fried Chicken, our secret vice, so off  I went and joined an unhealthy group of patrons and picked up a KFC special, six chicken thighs, four cole slaws, and four biscuits, all for twenty-one bucks.

Evie was able to hold off eating until 5:45. We watched an episode of The Resident, started a second, but paused because Evie was too tired and went up to bed around 6:45 since she had not slept the night before. I tucked her in, then had my dinner and watched three episodes of Fauda, finishing the first year of the series, and then went to bed.

Perfect
