Ah, Winter!

I have been up since 5:45, listening to Morning Joe for a few minutes, then to a couple of podcasts having nothing to do with politics, like Mo Rocca's Mobituaries.  In the podcast, Mo explored the life of Laura Branigan, famous for the song Gloria who died in 2004. It's cold out there, 26º, overcast and snow is expected.  The swans are back, honking at night and the morning until the lake freezes over.

Sunday was a busy day for Evie.  She wanted to get cookies made to send to our grandchildren and that would take up much of the day.  I was little help, mostly a bottle washer.  We had a good morning before the baking began, relaxing with our coffee and catching up on the news.  It started to snow around 10:30, just as Evie was putting together the dough for her cookies.

I suggested a walk through the woods and she jumped at it.  We spent close to an hour hiking through the Woodlawn/Victoria woods, as snow filled the woods.  It felt great to be outside after being housebound for a week, no hikes or walks.

We were home by 11:30, refreshed and ready for a good breakfast.  We ate around 12:30, eggs, bacon and sourdough toast, the best and watched CBS Sunday Morning. Once breakfast was done, Evie was busy a good part of the afternoon, rolling the dough, cutting out the cookies, baking them, putting on sprinkles and packing them for mailing off today.  Meanwhile, I watched some football, read, napped and did up some of the dishes.

We were looking forward to dinner, the pork chops we bought on Friday at the Lighthouse Grocery.  Evie breaded them, browned them, then baked them till done.  We also had a small salad, baked potatoes and homemade applesauce for our dinner.  Evie loved the pork chops, perfectly done and so did I.  Best of all, we have two left as well as baked potatoes for another easy dinner.

After dinner, we watched parts of Saturday Night Live but eventually decided to watch a much-admired new film, A MARRIAGE STORY on Netflix.  Its already garnered six Golden Globe nominations and is much admired by most critics, all except for us.  We did not much like it, nor did we enjoy it, an anti-love story.  It may be realistic about divorce but it was no fun to watch, especially the lawyers, a couple of parasites, sucking the lifeblood (and money) out of the couple, Adam Driver and Scarlett Johanssen.  And near the end, two vaudevillian scenes seemed ridiculous. The final scene, however, moved us but that's about it.
