Back To Normal: Overcast And Cold

7:38
It's 8:00 and we are back at the lake.  I have been up since 6:30, happy to be back listening to a Bill Simmons podcast on the top ten NBA players now, no politics.  What a contrast this morning, between the gray and cold of Chautauqua after a week of blue skies and '60s to 70's weather in Dallas.  Still, we almost kissed the ground when we arrived home yesterday after 20 hours of driving, the last six in fog and rain.

Kayak Morning
Duck Hunting
I dd get in a half-hour of kayaking.  It was good to be back out on the lake although when the wind picked up, it was cold.  Also, I talked briefly with a duck hunter as he was out wading in the lake, picking up is decoys.  He bagged a couple of mallards and buffleheads and was happy.

Kentucky at 8:30 AM
Yesterday was a blur and I have nothing nice to say about it other than we arrived home safely at 6:00 after a miserable wet and foggy drive through Ohio and Pennsylvania, to home in New York.  We left Tennesee by 7:00, having been up early at 6;00.

The City Of Cincinnati, As We Enter Ohio
We alternated driving every two hours until we arrived in Ohio when I drove until we reached the Pennsylvania line then Evie took over.  We stopped once at Mc Donald's for breakfast in Kentucky, then at Love's at the Ohio border to fill up on gas and buy a sub sandwich for our dinner when we arrived home.

Because we had nothing else to do, we listened to eight or nine hours of the impeachment hearing, perhaps the only couple in the US to do so. It felt more like the concept of truth was on trial. We were alternately bored and interested in what was being said.  Mostly, we were sick of the Democrats saying the same thing over and over again but disgusted by the Republicans, who complained ad nauseam about the unfairness of the hearings, the publicizing of the fact that Nunes had phone calls with Ukraine officials and Giuliani. They rarely if ever talked about why Trump shouldn't be impeached.  I loved it when the Republicans complained that the Democrat's lawyer was badgering their lawyer because he was asking questions that the Republicans either refused to answer or wouldn't for fear of supporting the Democrat's point.  In other words, he made the guy admit certain facts that he ignored.  It was like Perry Mason, getting the other guy to admit he was wrong.  I will say that by the time we arrived at the lake, I had enough of politics and grandstanding for a year and yet we have another year to go before November.

When we arrived at the lake, in the dark and rain, we waded through puddles of water as we emptied our car, getting soaked but still happy to be home.  We quickly checked out the house to make sure everything was fine after a two-week hiatus.  Once everything was put away, we enjoyed a nip of booze, to settle down after a grueling drive and I went through our mail. By 7:30, we were once again sitting in front of our TV, enjoying a sub sandwich and chips, watching TV.  After 15 minutes of Chris Matthews and the news, we decided to watch The Morning Show on Apple TV.  It was good enough that we went through two episodes before going up to bed.

We had a 'great' two weeks with family, notice I once again used the word 'great' but it's also always 'great' to get back to the lake.
