Sunny But Cold In Virginia

Baking With Granny
A Dog's Best Friend
The Sun, The Sun
I was up at 6:45, happy to see the sunlight, surprised by the unseasonably cold 25ยบ here in the South. I hope this freeze does not affect the trees, plants, and bushes that have already bloomed.  What fickle weather we have been having all over the US.

Because of the inclement weather yesterday, we did not do much outside.  Drew was up early, getting ready for his flight to Ukraine later in the day.  The girls slept in, needing the extra sleep after a tough week of school and sports.  Halle was the first granddaughter up and was ready to begin baking something with Evie, so they got out the yeast, flour, chocolate and started making up a dough, not sure where they were going with it; they put it in the fridge to rise.  Around 10:30, Halle, Evie, and I went off to the grocery story, Safeway, about ten minutes away.  We picked up pork chops for dinner, chicken for Sunday's dinner, and some goodies for Halle who loves to shop with her Granny, who will buy whatever she wants.

Halle With Her Grandparents
Volleyballers Extraordinaire
When we came home, Evie and Halle made their chocolate rolls before we drove off to watch Halle play volleyball, her second game ever.  Drew, unfortunately, had to leave for the airport so it was just the four of us, and we met Drew's parents at the Fitness Center who also came to watch.  Volleyball at this age group is basically about serving.  If you can get your serve in, your team wins.  Halle's team actually had a couple of three ball rallies even though they lost the match.  Halle was cute, seemed to enjoy playing, which  is all we cared about.  In fact, before she left for her game, the two of us worked on her skills outside on the driveway for twenty minutes.  She's a good athlete, so if she is willing to practice, she could be good, just so she likes it.

Ready To Pass
Hayden stayed home with her friend Ava, two peas in a pod.  They seem to enjoy laying around in Hayden's room, talking, laughing and I assume, texting and Instagramming their friends.  We relaxed the rest of the afternoon, enjoying wine time as we watched the Masters.  Around 6:00, Evie cooked the pork chops, put the twice baked potatoes in the oven which she put together in the morning, and Jill and Halle made a salad.  Dinner was great, as Hayden devoured the twice baked potatoes. Afterwards, we settled down in the living room to watch one of Hayden's favorite movies, DUMB AND DUMBER 2, filled with gross and infantile humor, just the sort of film to appeal to a teenager and I assume, many adults.  I was not one of them.  We stayed up until 10:30 before all of us headed to bed.

Halle, Hayden, and Ava
Today, my sister Ellen and her husband Walt, who live nearby in Herndon are coming to dinner which should be fun.  We have not seen them since their daughter Julia's wedding in December.
