A Rainy Late Afternoon

I missed sunrise for the first time in weeks, having slept in until 7:15, the sun already a muted globe in the Eastern sky.  It's 66º but a nice cool breeze is blowing in the window.  Later, however, the humidity and heat will return, another unusually hot and humid day here at the lake.

Friday's are like any other day for us here at the lake, other than the fact that around 5:00, the lake traffic begins to pick up as the weekenders arrive.  Like the previous days, it was very warm, probably a high around 85º and humid but sitting out on our dock was pleasant because of a wind though when the sun was at full force, it could be brutal.  Fortunately, it hid behind a veil of clouds much of the day.

Early morning, we had to deal with a leak from our refrigerator.  It looks as though the plastic tube that brings water to the ice maker has a small hole, so we are not sure how to fix it.  We will live without the automatic ice cube maker for awhile until we fix it or get it fixed, like most Americans did in the 1950's and 1960's, filling the ice cube trays at the sink and putting them in the freezer.  The only other activity of note was my trip to Lakewood, to stock up on a few items, stopping for coffee and organic eggs at Ryder's Cup, then on to Home Depot, where I talked to a guy about the leak in our refrigerator and he suggested just cutting off the part that has a leak, then reinserting it.  I will give it a try.  I then had a quick stop at Sam's picking up some staples, like a watermelon and Skinny Pop for Evie and other gargantuan packages of paper products.

I was home by 12:30 and Evie had made me an avocado and tomatoes and onion bagel for lunch, to go along with my black bean soup.  For some reason our TV remote was not working, so we had a hassle trying to fix that on and off during the day. Evie finally figured it out last night around 9:30, much to late for me to watch some tennis.

5:35 pm
We wasted the rest of the afternoon on the dock, going in only as threatening storm clouds pushed us into the water for a quick swim, then into the house.  And, by gosh, it started to rain some, continued on and off for short periods during the late afternoon, early evening, a miracle of sorts.  We sat on our porch, watching it rain then clear up, with a glass of wine and some cheddar cheese and crackers, a good way to end the day.

6:50 pm
Dinner was simple, Trader Joe's ribs, some coleslaw, and fried potatoes.  Because the remote was not working, we watched a movie on Netflix (we were able to access it), called Two Days, One Night, a French film about a young mother who loses her job but is then given a chance to get it back if she can convince her 12 colleagues to forego their 1000 euro bonus to hire her back.  The movie, then follows her, as she reluctantly though pushed by her husband, corrals each colleague and asks them to forego their bonus, some willing, others not.  I will not tell you the end in case you want to watch this C+ movie.  The protagonist, Marion Cotillard grows on you, the story sad making.
