Eleven Days Without Rain! None in Sight

Cocktails on Pat and Dave Jones Patio
I am going to make this quick as I have to get out and water the lawn, my daily task, as I spend at least a couple of hours watering to keep it wet.  It actually seems to be coming along fine but I would prefer to have some nice showers instead of relying on the lake water and occasionally a sprinkler.

Today is the big day for Evie as the Chautauqua Lake Association stops by Woodlawn to pick up the weeds cut by various residents.  She has been in touch with the CLA almost daily, making sure they come, setting up dates in the future for them to pick up the weeds.  It's becoming a daily task for her, talking to neighbors as well as the CLA.

Sundowners
We had a really nice evening with our newest neighbors the Jones last night at their home.  They are from Houston, TX, but grew up in Warren, PA, still have lots of relatives there, thus their interest in having a house on the lake, as well as the heat in Houston, obviously, during the summer.  They went to Houston in 1980 from Boston, just about the time we bought their house on the lake. Dave basically seems to be a fund raiser professional, as his company has worked for various foundations and colleges, setting up and organizing their fund raising.  It also has worked for various political groups and has a signed picture from George Bush Sr,, as Dave ran the campaign which honored Bush with an 8 foot high sculpture in Houston.  He also has done the same thing with James Baker, Reagan's aide and Republican operative.  They are both really nice people, and we had a fun evening, getting to know each other, no political tensions, just talk of our lives, our kids, and grandchildren.  He had to leave this morning for Houston at 6:00, so made sure not to stay too late.  Pat served a veal/tomato/cheese casserole, made ahead of time, heated, then cut into squares, served like a lasagna.  It was delicious as she's a pretty good cook, especially pastries, like nut horns, which we had early in the year and they were amazingly good.  She is of Polish ancestry, where as Dave is a mongrel like me, with various European ancestors.  We are about the same age, perhaps a year of two older, but we had much in common, growing up in the later 50's and 60's before starting our families.
