Cold with Snow Expected

Before Sunrise

An inch of snow is forecast for today, as the clear morning is giving way to clouds.  It was 30 degrees when I got up at 5:45, earlier than usual.  Right now there's a band of light/clear skies over Bemus but cloudy above, with the lake still shimmering, with black dots (ducks) moving in all directions.  They swim low in the water and must be buffleheads, as they are smaller than mallards.  As you can see, they are white on the bottom, a white cap, with a wide black stipe starting at the forehead, running down around their neck, down their back, to the tail.  They don't stay long at the lake, appear in late fall, early spring, rarely if ever in the summer.

Bufflehead Duck

We watched another Danish film last night, Kinamand (Chinaman), a touching story about a unhappy plumber whose life is turned upside down when his wife leaves him, mostly out of boredom.  He ends up selling all of his possessions, literally living with a cot and camping table in his apartment, eating all his meals at the local Chinese restaurant.  Gradually, he gets to know the owner of the restaurant and helps him out when his plumbing goes awry.  We soon learn that the owner of the Chinese restaurant has a sister that needs a husband to stay in Denmark, so she can get a visa.  He offers the plumber, Keld, 8000 dollars to marry her, pro forma, until she gets her visa.  He agrees, they get married, she moves in, and they slowly move from toy figures to people who slowly grow attracted to each other.  He begins to admire and embrace her culture, her quiet ways; she senses his underlying happiness and shows him compassion and care.  Problems arise, the film ends, and we end up bereft, like Keld. At least 3+ stars.

It did snow for about ten minutes but it didn't stick to the crown, just enough precipataion to keep the ground soaked.   We just got back from the gym, shot hoops, rowed, and biked for about 45 minutes, my usual routine, and took a shower, the best part of the workout.  Pork and sauerkraut for dinner tonight and, of course, a movie though we have started watching the series Damages on Netflix Instant, with Glenn Close and Ted Danson and after two shows, we are hooked.
