On To Dallas

Morning In Shreveport

We spent the night in Shreveport, in the Marriott, and though they said there would be coffee in the morning, there wasn't.  So I hopped in my car and drove to IHOP, a mistake because the staff was just arriving at 6:30 although there were supposed to be open at 6:00. I finally walked out with three terrible cups of coffee to go for nine bucks. I should have gone to Mc Donald's. We are maybe three hours from Dallas so we should be with our daughter Beth and her family by noon, one of two final destinations for our journey.

Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong Park

Yesterday was only a five-hour drive but it seemed much longer, probably because we were both tired from our 36 hours in New Orleans. Before leaving, we did go for a short walk around Louis Armstrong Park, across the street from our Best Western. It was a good way to start our day. The first couple of hours of our drive,  we drove West along an always busy Interstate 10, a highway literally elevated at least ten feet or more above the swamps or wetlands. If someone gets in an accident, good luck to the traffic that follows since there's no turning around or turn-offs. When we finally arrived in Layfayette the swamps ended and we headed north on Interstate 45, a straight 75 mile an hour shot to our hotel in Shreveport. Fortunately, we missed the rain which arrived and poured after we were in our room about 4:30. There was not much to see on our drive, mostly scrub on both sides of the highway, a few bridges, one over the Mississippi, and that was about it.  Fortunately, Evie was able to find the Browns game on Sirius Radio, so we listened to Jimmy Donovan call what sounded like a terrible game although the Browns won.

It felt good to be in our hotel room and not rushing off and enjoy the sights like we did in New Orleans.  We checked around for a dinner place and settled on Ramirez's Mexican, a short quarter-mile drive from our room. It was a busy place with locals, mostly Hispanic and three soccer games from Mexico were on the large screen TVs.  We ordered margaritas which arrived in huge square mugs and devoured their salsa and chips, some of the best we have had. I ordered three enchiladas with beans and rice and Evie had a taco salad.  Mine was great, Evie's so so.
