Frosty Paddling On A 27º Morning

7:45

8:21

Wow, it's almost 10:00 as I start my blog, later than ever.  I did sleep in till 7:00 and was in no hurry to get out on the lake because it was so cold out.  I waited for Evie to wake, then gathered all my stuff for a paddle, even mittens, and a stocking cap to stay warm.  I was out for 50 minutes, down to Wells Bay and back.  Paddling towards Wells Bay, into the bright sun, is blinding, as it's impossible to see anything along the shoreline because of the sun. Heading back, however, is great, the sun warming my back and the shoreline lit up by the sun.

Kayak Morning

Northern Sky

Friday we ended up having a good day although we started the day without plans.  Around 10:00, we decided to defrost the refrigerator, one last time, and then we are getting rid of it.  We put lots of stuff on the porch, knowing it would stay cold.  Once that was done, we decided we needed to get in another walk so we headed to Mayville to walk the Recreational Path because we knew it would be dry, unlike our hike in the woods on Thursday. We were practically the only ones on the path and it was longer than we thought just about three miles and it took us close to an hour.  It was a beautiful late morning, lake and sky blue, with picturesque clouds in the distance.

More Leaves

Lunch in the mess of the kitchen because of defrosting, Evie mad me a burrito with eggs and ham, something different and I watched my show of course.  We then had to decide what to do for dinner and neither of us felt like doing anything in the kitchen.  So after a leisurely afternoon of reading and napping, we showered and left to watch the District Final Volleyball game in Brocton, NY, a thirty-minute drive north.

Ava

Our good friend Jack's granddaughter, Ava,  sets for the Chautauqua Lake team, and we had watched them win a week ago.  It was fun to walk into a gym, packed with enthusiastic fans, all masked by the way.  Chautauqua Lake won in four, the girls charging the floor after the winning point.  It was an exciting game, with both teams taking advantage of the momentum, as the games went back and forth.

VICTORY

We then left and drove to Westfield where we met Jack, his wife, Diane, and Jack's sister Sally for dinner at the Bark Grill. It was busy when we arrived but we closed up the place.  Evie and I had the Codfish fry and the others had steak salads although Diane had delicious scallops with amaretto sauce, the hit of the evening.

A Victory Dinner At The Bark Grill

We did not get home until 9:00 after stopping at Mc Donald's for take-out hot fudge Sundays.  We ate our sundays and watched another Colbert, happily back in the saddle again, the end to another surprisingly fun day.
