A Costco And Hy Vee Day

Shop Till They Drop

It's 7:30 and all is quiet on the Central States front.  Marlena was up at 6:15, had breakfast and I walked with her and Bella to the bus a 6:45 on an overcast morning here in Lee's Summit.  Mary went back upstairs to have her coffee and get rid to run.  Evie's still sleeping and Tom is showering, getting ready to head to work.  And best of all, our grandson Nick arrived home last night at 11:45, after a three hour drive from the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville.  He must have bagged some of today's  classes so he could see his grandparents for an extra day!

Yesterday was a 'get ready for Thanksgiving Day,' as we wanted to finish our shopping off for the big day by hitting two stores.  We were not exactly filled with energy, still recovering I think from our drive from the lake and sleeping in new beds.  So we were in no hurry to be on our way, taking our time.  I went for a nice walk, down to their creek, along it to the main road and back.  It felt good to be outside, breathing in the cool air, walking in the neighborhood woods.  This development has some neat walking paths which criss cross the neighborhood and woods.

We drove to Costco, 20 minutes away, and started off by buying a pair of slippers for me for eight bucks, a deal right.  We then split up and browsed and by the time  I was done looking, Evie and Mary had not even done the grocery shopping yet.  So like the little boy waiting for his mom to finish her shopping,  I tried to make the time pass as they looked at one turkey after another, trying to decide which was the best.  And multiply that times every other item we needed and we didn't get out of there for a good hour.  Half way through shopping, Tom showed up, to make sure we did not overdo it -- ha ha.  Evie did not go overboard as is her wont at Costco, buying only a down vest, another deal for 20 bucks.  On the way out, I bought a final deal, a hot dog and coke for $1. 69.  We said goodbye to Tom who had to go back to work, ten minutes away and I thought we were through but no, we had to stop at the local grocery store, Hy Vee, to do the same thing we had just done, grocery shop, looking for the other items we could not get at Costco.  This took another forty five minutes, as I found a cafe to relax in and let the gals shop.  We finally arrived home by 1:30, Mary's car groaning with groceries.  It took some time and imagination to find places in both refrigerators for all the turkey stuff but we did it.

Snack and Study Time

We then waited for Marlena to come home at 3:00, so we could spend some quality time (dislike that word) with her.  As usual, she came home a happy girl, ready to get some homework done before her tennis lesson under the lights at 5:00 outside in their development's recreational center.  Mary met a girlfriend for happy hour so we relaxed and watched TV until Tom got home around 5:30.  I picked up Marlena at 6:00 and Evie then put together an easy and healthy dinner, chicken noodles soup from Costco and cheese and ham sandwiches on naan, also from Costco.  Tom has not been feeling well the last couple of days so we thought chicken soup was the perfect panacea for him.  Dinner was good, the soup really tasty, lots of flavor and chicken.  How does Costco do it?  We then did what we have been doing for the past  few days, watched football, the NFL in Mexico City, or Kansas basketball, locally in Kansas City.  In fact, Tom was supposed to go to the game with a buddy but canceled because he was not feeling energetic enough to spend a night out, alas.

We were thinking of waiting up for Nick but were too  tired so all of us were in bed by 10:30.  I never did hear him come home.
