On The Road To Effingham, Again

6:10
I awoke for some reason at 5:15, so I got up, to a rosy colored morning sky, a long narrow cloud hanging over the opposite shoreline, and the sound of birds welcoming dawn.  We hope to be off by 7:00, bringing us into our Delta Inn (it used to be Hampton) around 3:30 or 4:00.  We gain an hour by the way.  It looks like we may have warm weather, perhaps some thundershowers on the way as well. And, ironically, it's going to cool off when we get to Kansas City, so we are bringing some fleeces as well shorts and tee shirts and bathing suits.

The Great Long Neck Of A Blue Heron
Yesterday was a typical day before a trip, as we spent the day thinking through what we might need in either Kansas City or Dallas, two very different places.  So we have been thinking about it over the past few days, made our decisions quickly, at least I did, and we are now packed, the bags are already in our car, and we can relax now, with a glass of wine and eggplant stuffed with ricotta, then breaded and fried, just something Evie threw together in between cutting the lawn, packing, telling me what needs to be done, and cleaning the house...Wonder Woman!  And of course, it's our last night at the lake for a couple of weeks and the sun just came out.

Late Afternoon Visitors
Where To?
I was busy as well, getting the kayaks safe, up near our garage in case of a storm, cutting our neighbors lawn, clearing off the dock in case of heavy winds or a storm.  And I drove to the library, to return a book (don't want to pay that 5 cents a day fine) and gassed up the car.  Finally, I spent 30 minutes watering the grass seed during the predicted thundershowers which, of course, passed us by.  I thought I would anger the Weather Gods by watering but they just ignored me.

7:20 PM
We enjoyed a glass of wine before dinner, with Evie's stuffed eggplant for an appetizer.  It's a keeper. We had a dinner of leftovers, pizza from the other night, some broccoli and salad.  And we binge watched on 30 Degrees In February but still have six episodes left in Season 2.  We also had strawberries and ice cream for dessert, as the strawberries seem to be getting really tasty.  It's that time of the year.  Nothing, however, matched the fresh strawberries in Istanbul each spring.

By 6:00 tonight, we hope to be sitting in a Texas Steakhouse, at the bar of course, sipping a beer and listening to a trucker or salesman telling us all about their life and adventures.
