WARRIORS: AN ALEX HAWK NOVEL:

I am not sure where I saw this book recommended as a thriller and a silly thriller it is indeed. A Chinese general orchestrates a coup d'etat in China and prepares to take over the world, by threatening the West with hydrogen bombs sent from unmanned submarines, set in the ocean's bottom at various locations all over the world.  How did they jump so far ahead of the West with their weaponry?  By capturing the US's premier scientist, William Lincoln Chase, along with his family, forcing the scientist to work for them with threats towards his family.  Wow.  Not a very promising outcome until Alex Hawke steps into the picture, a James Bond clone.  He's thirty three years old, the sixth wealthiest man in the world.

Back to the story... it takes initially in England, as the CIA and MI5 discover the plot by the general to take over the world.  They also find out Chinese agents are involved in Cambridge, England, now professors at the University.  We also are taken to the prisons in China, where scientist William Chase and his family are kept.  There lives seem like something out of a North Korean camp, not one in China, supposedly are neighbors, not enemies.

After uncovering the plot, neutralizing the Chinese agents in England, and putting together a plan, Alex infiltrates an island off the coast of China, with an international team of 'warriors.' This island is the command post and lab for evil General, kind of a Dr. No. Alex and his team manage to rescue both the scientist, William Chase and his family, defuse the nuclear weapons, blow up the island,  the command post and laboratory, just before they escape via a submarine.  Not even James Bond could have managed this.
