Unseasonably Warm And Partly Cloudy

7:31
7:55
It's almost 8:30, Evie's just getting up, and I have been up for an hour, watching the heavy cloud cover give way to some clear skies, some sun, the warmth necessary for warm 60º day in December.

Yesterday morning was a different from our usual Sunday of a leisurely morning reading the papers, listening to NPR, followed by a walk around the Chautauqua Institution.  Instead, we had guests stay over, so we had a different and fun morning with the Cassells.  I was up as usual around 7:00 and the rest slept in till 8:00 which was nice.  We sat around sipping coffee and talking until around 10:00 when Evie and Barb got busy in the kitchen making our Sunday breakfast of home fries, bacon, eggs, toast and orange juice.  Breakfast was great (I cannot think of 'great' without thinking of Trump), the best, because no one makes eggs and bacon better than Evie.  She's the best, tremendous.  Our friends left around noon, leaving the house quiet and empty, the way it always feels when family or friends have left after a fun visit.

The rest of the day was a blur, as neither of us did much other than relax and read and watch some TV.  Evie did, however, get something done, as she began to write some Christmas notes to friends on FELT, a great app where she can hand write a note on her iPad and it then is sent to FELT, mailed, with her handwritten note.  And she can pick out the cover of the card, or put a photo on it.  Pretty cool.  It was uncomfortably warm outside, perhaps the reason why neither of us felt like a walk or kayaking.  For whatever reason, we just took it easy, enjoying the large leisure of retirement, knowing that it would be a busy week, as we leave Thursday for Virginia and a great weekend in Alexandria where my niece, Julia, is getting married.

Dinner was Friday night's leftover butter chicken, just enough for me with some naan, and Evie was happy with a salad and naan.  We watched some old Stephen Colbert and James Corden  shows until 9:00 when the penultimate episode of Homeland came on.  It was good, lots of tension.  We wonder if Carrie will manage to unravel the terrorist plot!  And I am finally getting into my book, the highly recommended THE SELLOUT.  The prologue was difficult to wade through, dense, filled with jargon and hip hop allusions but I stuck with it and I am now into it.  Patience.
