Yesterday was probably the most uncomfortable day of the summer, extremely warm, 86º mid afternoon, no breeze, and humid. Fortunately, that front has passed and we will be having some cooler weather. I went to yoga yesterday at 9:30, two women and moi, one who is a talker with no filter, is new to yoga, loves it and thinks it's going to be her panacea, help her to lose weight, be happy, relax more. Hope it works. This is one of the things I like about yoga; I get to know new and interesting people, mostly women, yes, but a couple have gotten to be friends, one's we hope to ask to dinner. After yoga, I went to Ryders Cup and got a free cup of coffee because Joyce, the owner, some how knew my birthday was today. She even knew my age! Then onward to Wegman's, to buy the makings for dinner, chicken with creamy mushroom sauce, a recipe I saw on one of the blogs I follow. It reminded me of the good old days of comfort foods in our first couple of years of marriage, where Evie just poured a couple of cans of Campbell's mushroom soup over chicken, baked it for an hour and we had a tasty if unhealthy dinner.
When I got home, Evie had just finished cutting the lawn and was about to start cutting it a second time in spite of the heat and humidity, her favorite kind of exercise. Fortunately, she had closed up the house mid morning, so walking in with the groceries was like walking into an air conditioned house. And it stayed that way all afternoon. We did not spend any time out on the dock yesterday because of the heat, rather staying inside or sitting outside under the trees where there was a breeze. At 4:30, we went for a cruise, along Bemus's Lakeside Drive and back, as the breeze picked up, making it comfortable. At 6:00, we sat out on the porch, with our favorite cheese (Fromager d'Affinois), with crackers, and had a drink, to celebrate my birthday at home. It was another picturesque night, and we didn't go in for dinner until about 7:30, just as the sky was darkening. The chicken with creamy mushroom sauce was superb, on rice, and we watched the next episode of The Killing, still riveting if predictable in ways.
Tonight, we were going to downtown Jamestown, to the Chalk Walk but it's been cancelled until tomorrow. The Infinity Music Program Benefit night, however, is also tonight, where for a ten dollar donation, you get to hear various bands all evening, at various bars and venues. This will be the third year we have gone and we really enjoy it. And, we are going to have dinner at our favorite restaurant, Forte, voted one of best New York restaurants outside of NYC. It's described as follows: "This sleepy, sultry Jamestown eatery is one for the travelers book---head in after a day of hiking and sight-seeing, or make the trek from the city---it's really worth it."
