I was up around 6:30, a quiet lake, with a light mist, the sky, lake, shore, shades of gray, the coastline of trees dark.  It's 64º, some sun in the morning supposedly, then rain this afternoon.  Thus far, the sun has not broken through the cloud cover so it remains overcast.

Yesterday was rainy much of the day, so we stayed inside, with an occasional foray to the dock, in between the showers, to cast a bit and miracle of miracles, I caught a few perch, reinforcing the myth that fish bite when it's raining.  Since it was raining, both of us decided to go shopping around 10:30, thinking Wegman's might not be busy....mistake.  Lots of people had the same idea, so it was crowded with locals and visitors, all stocking up for the week.  Evie is beginning a set of new grocery lists for when I kids arrive in two weeks.  We like to have at least three dinners ready for them, making it easier for everyone, no shopping, minimal cooking.  And it's a nice way to welcome anyone, to have meals ready, as if their arrival has not only been anticipated but looked forward to.  We also stopped at TJ Maxx, as Evie wanted to pick up a shower curtain.  We stayed for only 15 minutes, a record, I think.

When we got home, Evie made a Turkish Menemen, an omelet with tomatoes, parsley, feta cheese, and Maras pepper, one of our favorites.  And, with a sesame seed bagel, similar in taste to a Turkish Simit, we had a memorable breakfast.  Sometimes a meal tastes so good, like the spaghetti and meatballs the night before.  There's no predicting it...it's just a combination of being hungry and the right food for that moment.

At 3:00, of course, I tuned into the World Cup, and watched the entire match, better than I expected because there was 'some' offense from both teams.  At half time, about 4:00, I DVR-ed the game and we both went over to our next door neighbor's yard for cake and ice cream, celebrating their grandchildren's birthdays.  It had cleared up so we were able to sit outside and it was hot enough that we moved our chairs into the shade.  We stayed until 5:30 and then went home and watched Germany win the World Cup with an amazing goal in the last few minutes of overtime by a substitute.  I think the better team won though Argentina certainly showed they were a match for the German juggernaut.

After the game, we sat on our front porch for an hour, having a beer, some cheese and crackers, until we decided to go in for a dinner of barbecued pork sandwiches, with lots of coleslaw, dripping from the roll. Yum.  That was it for dinner but we both enjoyed the ease and change, a sandwich for dinner, then watched some TV, nothing memorable as our shows were not on till 10:00 so we DVR-ed them for tonight. I was happy to get back to my book, as the protagonist has just entered the police state of Nazi Germany for a assignation with an arms dealer, who is willing to sell anti tank guns to the Republicans in Spain, albeit supported by the Soviet Union but preferable to Franco's Nationalists' fascism.  Neither the US nor Great Britain or France openly supported either side but if they had a preference, it would have been the Republicans, but because  of Stalin's support and politics, none of the great powers gave help to the elected government, the Republicans, except through back channels. Sounds familiar, doesn't it.
