OVERCAST AND STILL CHILLY

7:14
Early Morning Kayaking
Cool Birthday Card From My Sister, Ellen

Up later than usual, 7:10, a result no doubt of my wild birthday celebration.  It is 49º and cloudy, with a few streaks of light off to the east.  They are forecasting rain later in the day alas, as we hope to go into Jamestown tonight, walking from one band venue to another which, if it rains, will keep down the crowd and fun.  The bands play for the benefit of a great musical program for disadvantaged youth.

Yesterday was a wonderful day because of my wife who treated me like a king, no doubt bemoaning the fact that she was married to a seventy year old man.  The morning started with my choice of breakfast, Belgium waffles, with maple syrup.  Yum.  And because there are no grandchildren around to devour them, we now have lots frozen ready to be taken out when ever I want a couple.  After breakfast, Evie baked her onion rye bread, filling the kitchen with great smells.  We decided on a walk in Mayville, along Sea Lion Drive, a beautiful morning for a hour and a half walk, with little if any traffic.

We stopped at the Lighthouse on the way home, to get two nice filets for dinner and peaches, a basket, because they are still in season.  When we returned home, Evie made toasted cheese sandwiches on her onion rye bread for lunch along with cucumber soup.  In her spare time Evie then put together the makings for twice baked potatoes, for my special dinner and also made a peach crisp for dessert.  Once all that was done, we relaxed on the dock, enjoying the afternoon.  We decided to take a long booze cruise but Evie first wanted to cut the lawn, which she did while I got things ready for a cruise.  We were out for over an hour on a windless and quiet Friday afternoon, just cruising slowly along the shoreline to Maple Springs and back.  We wonder why we don't do this more often.  When we got back, Evie baked the twice baked potatoes and boiled the corn, and I grilled the filets, and we had the dinner I wanted for my birthday, steak, potatoes, corn and salad, the best.  The peach crisp for dessert with ice cream was the perfect end to my seventieth birthday.

After dinner, we watched a highly rated but not very popular movie called MUD.  We were bored with it early on as it's slow but it picked up some momentum half way through, so we stuck with it.  It has a fairly well known cast, Matthew Mc Conaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and Sam Shepard but the two young boys, who discover Mud and help him find his true love (who ain't so true) and escape the brothers out to kill him, steal the movie,  reminding me a bit of STAND BY ME, the Stephen King movie.  It's set on a river in Arkansas, but the setting reminds me of the bayous surrounding New Orleans.
