Chilly Morning Sunrise

6:38
6:55
Up at 6:20, to an orange streak off towards Long Point, some clouds but a mostly clear sky.  It is chilly, 54º according to the weather channel, 61º according to my outdoor weather station.  I did walk out briefly and I think the weather station is more accurate at least for here at Woodlawn.

We had a another perfect day yesterday, high in the 70's, a bit windy but sunny all day.  It was such a nice day that neither Evie nor I wanted to do much but take it easy and enjoy the outdoors.  So, we went to the Chautauqua Institution for a walk, the first time since June when the CI opened for the season.  A few residents left but empty for the most part, like an empty stage where the scenery has yet to be taken down.  It is a visually interesting walk because everyone takes care of their front yards, seemingly in competition to see who can have the most beautiful garden.  The front yards, for those who don't know the CI are so small that instead of grass, most people feel the space with bushes, flowers, shrubs, lots of hostas, perennials and annuals.  I was surprised to see that no new houses have been started, no older houses taken down.  Usually, there are a few surprises, a house once standing, now gone and we wonder what it looked like.

When we got home, Evie put together a lunch from the 1950's, fried baloney and egg sandwiches, packed them up, and we went off in our boat to fish, down beyond the bridge, along the Cheney Farm lake front, a spot where we tend to have good luck.  Well, it was a bit breezy when we started but by the time we got to our spot, the wind was so strong we could not anchor our boat.  So, we made it a nice boat ride with a lunch rather than a fishing trip and just enjoyed a slow cruise home on the empty lake.  When we returned to our dock, we realized it was the perfect spot to fish or relax, no wind, warm, protected I suppose by the trees and bay, so we sat out on the dock the rest of the afternoon, reading, sun bathing, swimming, and fishing.

We had leftover chicken, rice and eggplant for dinner, along with a salad, and watched  a few more episodes of Season 4 of Nurse Jackie.  Fairly soon we will be caught up and have to watch it on TV.

The breakfast club starts this morning at 8:00, over at the Bemus Point Inn, so it will be good to see the guys after a summer hiatus.
