Barrier across Whitney Bay Canal? |
Up at 5:30, to quiet and a early morning sky. At 6:00, the bass boats took off from various marinas, racing off to sweet spots, then quiet again. A clear sky, about 60 degrees, it felt cool in our downstairs living room. About 6:40, I went kayaking for over an hour, down to Prendergast Creek (Snug Harbor) as the crow flies, about 25 minutes, then back slowly, fishing occasionally along the shore line of Whitney Bay and Magnolia. A beautiful morning to be on the lake, more fishermen than usual, as it's a Saturday and there's a tournament and, as usual, few people seem to be up and about their yard or dock. Too many of us, because of work, miss how wonderful early mornings can be, especially on the lake and when you are retired and have the time to sit back and enjoy the moment, without the hassle of work, getting things done, rushing about. Down at the far end of Whitney Bay, a couple of canals lead from the lake back to #394. For some reason, one of them had a barrier across the canal, blocking access in or out of the canal. I am not sure what it's for, but if you live on the canal and have a boat, there's no way to be out to the lake.
Yesterday was taken up with a visit from Stan Marshaus and family. Stan and Anne came over for a breakfast about 9:30, with their girls, Mary and Elizabeth and stayed till about 1:30, enjoying the lake and watching the girls entertain themselves. Evie made buttermilk pancakes and bacon, and we ate outside as it was a lovely morning. Anne and the girls an Evie went swimming, and Evie and I took the girls out for a short kayak ride. Then Evie got out the balloons which, when pumped and released, fly in to the sky. This kept the girls occupied for at least an hour, chasing them as they let them fly. And, of course, they got to go to the treasure chest which took another hour, as both had a difficult time making up their minds what to take home. They are really cute girls and fun to be with. Stan seemed good, after his ordeal the last month, getting a pacemaker and fighting a staph infection. Slowly, he seemed to be getting his strength back.
We just relaxed the rest of the afternoon, did some reading, I cleaned my boat, and to make it easy, we had leftover spaghetti and a salad for dinner, with guacamole and chips, for an appetizer on our porch before dinner. We watched the next two episodes of Breaking Bad, and fought the urge to watch one more episode as the two main characters have just been kidnapped by Tucco, the violent psychopathic drug dealer. What will happen next? I 'll have to wait till tonight.
That was a good idea, to start watching BB from the beginning. WIsh I had thought of that.
