Overcast And Rain

It's 9:00 and I just returned from an hour paddle on a gray but calm lake morning. I was rewarded with my first shot of an osprey, down at the north end of Woodlawn, a spot where I usually find one or two ospreys during the summer. They have been back in the area for three or four weeks.

Saturday was a wet day, with close to two inches of rain falling on and off during the day. I was up early and didn't get in a paddle because of the rain. By 9:00, I was ready to do something, so once Evie was awake and settled, we made a list for Wegmans, and I was off to coffee with a couple of friends, regulars who go there most mornings because they live in Lakewood. We sat around talking, with another friend joining. One of the guys. John, a new friend, knew I was a kayaker and brought me an old paddle, thinking I might be able to use it. By 10:45, I was at a busy Wegmans as usual, but browsed quickly, found a short line for the cashier, and was home by 12:15. 

Evie had been busy as usual but had time to make me lunch, a couple of tuna and tomato and cheese sandwiches, toasted, to go with the last of the cauliflower/sweet potato soup. I watched another episode of Joe Pickett before returning to my book and taking a nap. Because of the rain, I didn't do much during the rest of the afternoon but Evie hoped to buy some end of the school year presents for her kindergarteners and drove off to Walmart. Unfortunately, they did not have what she wanted or were out of stock, so she will have to use Bezos' Amazon. 

By 5:00, we were enjoying a Manhattan, sushi and chips, and dip while our dessert, brownies, were baking the the oven.  We are happy to limit a Manhattan to once a week. It reminds both of us of my parents who enjoyed a cocktail before dinner. We listened to the news, then some music before dinner, some leftovers and a great salad with hard-boiled eggs. We watched a couple of shows while enjoying brownies and after Evie went up to bed, I finished Joe Pickett and watched the second half of the Nuggets' defeat of the Clippers.
