Road Trip Day # 1 Oxford, Ohio

6:50

7:34
Well, it's 6:00 and both of us are up, listening to MSNBC, waiting for it to get light.  We had a deluge overnight and when I checked the rain gauge this morning, we easily got four inches of rain or more overnight. When I went out to take a morning photograph, we saw lots of detritus, especially branches of trees, even logs, and an empty fishing boat floating down the lake.  It's going to be partly cloudy and in the fifties for our first drive today.

Yesterday was a miserable day, a good day to stay inside and pack for our trip, something I have to admit we have been doing for four for five days.  We like to eat the elephant of packing one bite at a time just so we are done by tomorrow morning.  I did not kayak, did not even think about it because the lake was gray and nasty, with wind and waves.  As I mentioned, it's hard to pack when you are traveling between the warmth of the south, the cold of the Midwest.  And we have a hard enough time making a choice of what to bring let only what we need to bring (bathing suits as well as winter jackets, gloves, and hat). Yes, we are both nuts. The highlight of the morning was closing up my duffle, finally, and a great breakfast, home fries, fried eggs, bacon, and bagels.

I intended on watching some NFL while Evie worked vacuuming the upstairs but I fell asleep and missed the first half of the Eagles game.  No problem as there are plenty more football games on any given Sunday.  I did look forward to watching the Chiefs at 4:45 so I drove off to Bemus to pick up dinner, a pizza from Coppola's around 4:30 so I would have time to watch the game.  Of course, we listened and watched the breaking news of the terrible shooting in Texas, another reason for not talking about the limiting of machine guns.  Around 5:30, the thunder and lightning moved in as well as the rain, so we sat down in the living room, having a glass of wine, listening to CNN and watching the light show over the lake.  Dinner was pizza and a salad, so there was little to do so we stretched out our wine time.

We watched some more football, some news show and of course the coverage of the mass shooting in Texas, as they struggle to figure out the killer's motivation.  We were both tired and went to bed early because we wanted to be up early for our road trip.  It was still raining.
