It's 7:05 and I have been up for an hour, to a changing morning sky.  Lots of clouds, occasionally the sun breaks through, 63º on a calm windless morning on the lake. The guys next door are getting their bass boats ready to go as there must be a bass tournament this weekend.

Yesterday began as it should, with a great paddle over to Long Point and back, with a single blue heron sighting.  When I got back, Evie was up and cleaning up the dirty dishes from the previous night's dinner with Linda and Ron.  Around 9:30, we were happy to see that the weed cutters, these huge grasshopper looking boats, were in the neighborhood, cleaning out the weeds.  Evie talked with them to make sure they were going to clean out Woodlawn and they guaranteed her they would. They spent quite a bit of time not only in front of the docks and between them but when all was said and done, the weeds still reign although not as heavily.  In other words, they make a difference but are not a panacea to weed growth.

While they were cutting, Halle and I drove off to Lakewood, stopped at Ryder's Cup for a frozen hot chocolate (sorry Marisa), then went to drop off our returnables at the Can Man.  I had five bucks worth of cans and gave it to Halle, to spend as she wished.  We then did a quick shopping through Wegman's, as Evie had a thorough list on my phone.  And I only forgot two things, spinach and a second can of artichoke hearts.  I am getting better.  Halle is walking pretty well after her operation and was able to push the cart throughout the store.

We were home by 12:30, in time for a lunch of soup and a schnitzel sandwich.  Evie was cutting the lawn, with brief water breaks because she was hot and sweaty from the sun and humidity.  When she came in to see Halle and get some water, the lens from my glasses fell on to the kitchen floor.  We picked up the lens but could not find the screw that held it in place.  So, after an attempt at a nap, I had to drive into Jamestown to get my glasses fixed, then stopped at Wegmans to pick up spinach and because the cutters finally cut our weeds, I picked up some flowers, to give to Ginny, the admin at the Chautauqua Lake Association, who we have known for years and gets all the calls from home owners who want their weeds removed.

When I got home, Evie was out in the water, with Halle, cutting more weeds, picking up the cut weeds leftover from the cutters.  I joined her and between us, our swimming area is ready for our families arrivals on Friday.  We knew we did not want to cook dinner, so we decided to have pizza, just what Halle wanted.

Pizza With Granny On The Lake
I drove over to Bemus, picked up two pizzas and when I got home, Evie had drinks and a salad made and packed, so we could have dinner on the boat.  We were on it by 6:15 and cruised for a bit, trying to find the right angle to avoid the sun and heat.  We finally found some shade on the south side of Long Point, turned off the engine and just floated for a half hour, eating salad and pizza, enjoying the lake.  It was a perfect place for a boatnic.

A Relaxing Boater
After we finished, we cruised for a half hour, with Halle laying down of the bow, as we slowly boated into the sun.  We were back after 8:00 and quickly got organized so we could watch a couple more episodes of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.  Evie made Halle and me a dish of peach crisp with ice cream, so we were more than happy as we watched the teenage angst on TV.
