Evie's Garden In The Morning |
|
Dahlia |
It was good to get up to a 62º morning here at the lake, cool and sunny, the lake already busy on a Sunday morning. I was up in time to see the sunrise at 6:05, with a few puffy clouds in the blue sky. It looks like we could get some rain later in the day but it usually passes south of us. I had another fine kayak morning, along Woodlawn, across to Long Point, then Sandy Bottom and home.

Long Point In The Morning |
Yesterday was another seven-hour drive home from Bristow; the good part, we were bringing our 12-year-old granddaughter Halle with us. She is recuperating from foot surgery, so we thought it would be a nice change for her to be at the lake, rather than sitting home alone during the day. We left later than expected, around 8:30, stopped at our favorite gas station/fruit stand, Shawnee Spring Market and picked up a couple of bags of peaches and some melons. We stopped at Mc Donalds for breakfast; Halle said she was not hungry but ended up having pancakes and sausage. I guess she was hungry. We made pretty good time, seven hours, even though we stopped at Gio's so I could get a pulled pork and cole slaw sandwich. It's a good place.

Happy To Have Arrived At The Lake |
We arrived at the lake around 4:00 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Woodlawn was busy, with lots of neighbors and their friends, enjoying the weekend. We had closed up the house so it was stuffy and I quickly opened windows and doors to get some fresh air. Halle seemed happy to be here, especially on her own with her Granny. Evie helped her to walk out to the lake with a cane and by dinner time, she was already doing much better (she just got her stitches out on Thursday so walking is still difficult). We did not do much the rest of the afternoon. Both Halle and Evie were hungry so Evie made an omelet and salad and we sat on the front porch for dinner. Halle then walked tentatively out on the dock, not quite sure of herself. And we sat out there until it became too cool to enjoy the early evening.

Dinner On The Porch |
We decided to watch some TV so I thought Halle might like the series FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. And she did and even though we have already seen it, we enjoyed the first two episodes as well. It's an amazingly good series about high school football in Texas. As we were watching TV, Evie and I got a text from our daughter Jill. She sent a picture of her and Marco Rubio, the Senator from Florida who was having dinner at the same restaurant in Gainesville. After TV, Evie and Halle played some card games while I watched some junk TV until I was ready to go upstairs and read. Halle was tired as well even though she slept much of the way to the lake, so she was in bed by 10:30.
