Heading East, Stopping Somewhere In Tennessee

A Reluctant Family Photo

The Girls
The Guys At Hopdoddys
It's an early morning start for us, 5:45, as we want to get in a good ten to eleven hours before it gets dark, and we will have the same drive tomorrow as long as the weather stays decent.  Rain is predicted, perhaps some snow when we get near Chautauqua on Monday late afternoon.

Yesterday was kind of a blah day for all of us, mostly because of the inclement weather and the fact we had to pack and were leaving this morning.  Everyone slept in some which was great except for me, and Rami joined my around 8:00.  We were not sure what we wanted to do, but Marisa was getting a hair cut in the Knox/Henderson area, where there are a lot of neat shops, like Crate and Barrel and Sur La Table.  So we dropped Marisa and Beth off at the hairdressers and Rami, Evie and I browsed all the kitchen/home goods stores, not really looking for anything but Evie ended up buying a few things from Sur La Table: a plastic scrubby, spaghetti strainer/scoop, and we spent about an hour walking around the neighborhood in drizzle, the kind that eventually soaks through if you are out long enough.  We, of course, left our rain jackets and umbrellas in the car where they belong.

We didn't get home until 1:30 and we were all hungry, so we had either chili or toasted ham and cheese sandwiches.  We then went our ways for awhile, and I ate, watched UCLA beat Kentucky in basketball before the Florida/Alabama football game.  I read some, cat napped because Evie, Marisa and Rami ran off to the store again, not sure what for, to Bed, Bath, And Beyond and Michaels. I drove off as well to get our car gassed up and and was surprised to get gas for $1.99 a gallon. Everyone was home by 3:30 and we sat around watching more football, while Evie and Marisa worked on a project, grinding up styrofoam peanuts in Beth's food processor.  We also spent some time packing because we wanted our car ready to go before we headed up to bed. We talked about a movie earlier in the afternoon but let it slip away as we ran out of gas and just enjoyed sitting around doing nothing until it was time for dinner.

We decided  to eat at Hopdoddy's, a ten minute walk away.  It's a fancy burger bar, where you order at a counter, then sit down, and they bring you burgers, fries, and beers, whatever you ordered.  It's a great pace to eat and I had the best burger I have had in a long time, The Buffalo Burger, with bison, blue black cheese, Frank's hot sauce, Apple Smoked Bacon, and Sassy Sauce.  The fries, homemade, were served with aioli/truffle sauce.  Everyone had a burger, of course, with huge baskets of fries which we almost, not quite, finished.  It was a good choice, our second time actually in the last year.

When we  got home, we had another piece of Tyler's cake for dessert and the whole family went up and watched the Christmas episode of The Office and another before Tyler won out and the three of us ended the night watching another violent episode of FARGO.  I think we were the first one's to go up to bed, the others seemed ready to stay up and watch some shows, after all, it was Saturday night.

Anyways, we have had a great trip, hate to leave but we have been on the road for over two weeks and it's time to head back to the lake.  Marisa ended her evening, typically for our young gymnast, with splits up the wall!
