A Spring Like Day in Lee's Summit (Kansas City)

Birthday Girl with Bella and Dad
Granny and Marlena

It's dark outside, as I am up a 5:45, not used to the time change here.  It's dark out, but a clear sky and 55º.  It's supposed to get in the 70's later in the day, so different from Chautauqua, which is 21º at the moment.  We have a typically busy family morning, starting early.  Mary takes Nick to Omaha, for a make up soccer game, leaving at 7:00.  It's three hours there, three hours back.  Also, this morning at 7:30, Marlena has picturing taking for her 4th grade volleyball team, game to follow at 8:00.  We will go to the volleyball game, not soccer, an easy choice after the past two days sixteen hours on the road.
At Kleinschmidt's

We had an easy six hour drive yesterday, though monotonous and boring, as the stretch between St. Louis and Kansas City seems to never end. It is fun to cross both the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, knowing the history of both.  We did stop at Kleinschmidts, shopped for about a half hour and I picked up another flannel shirt for winter.  The store is fun to browse in though most of their stuff is not our style, country and outdoors, but it is still neat.  We got to Tom and Mary's house around 3:00 and Mary had a huge pot of tomato sauce simmering on the stove and was making meatballs for dinner.  We love her spaghetti and meatballs, her Sicilian father's recipes, so we were happy.  Nick got home around 3:00 and played ball outside with his buddies.  Marlena does not get home until 4:20 so we met her happy smile at the bus.

The Results, Just Like Magnolia's in NYC

Because we were not here for Marlena's birthday, we celebrated it last night.  Evie had made cup cakes in Chautauqua so both she and Marlena had a great time decorating the cupcakes for our after dinner dessert.  They really turned out cute and Marlena loves decorating them with her Granny.  Tom arrived home from work around 5:30, so we had a glass of wine, talked, and had a great dinner of pasta, meatballs, and bread at 6:30.  We sang Marlena happy birthday, ate the cupcakes and gave Marlena her present,  a framed poster, a collage of photographs from her past ten years.  It is really an amazing collage and she loved it.  Evie spent hours on it, picking out photos from my Aperture app on my Mac, then taking them to Walmart to arrange and print.  They turned out fantastic, clear and bright, a pictorial history of Marlena's life with her family.

We all we tired but watched a movie, The Break Up, and went to be around 10:15 knowing we all have to be up early.  Another good day, with many more to come.
