In Granny's Garden |
Up early, 6:30, delightfully cool, sun rising over Long Point, breezy as I open the windows, to let in the outside. Not much action in the house, as the girls are sleeping, no boats on the lake yet, just the martins busy at their morning tasks. They should be migrating soon, early August as I remember, and its been a banner year, with two or three sets of fledglings, a record for us.
We are trying to give the girls a new experience each day, so today it was a walk around the Chautauqua Institution. We went in on our library passes, so we avoided having to pay and enjoyed the experience for about an hour. The girls liked the book store best, browsing, and Hayden came out with a new book. There was lots of action going on, the CI's orchestra was playing Souza marches, stirring and fun. We also went to the library briefly, walked to the south end and back to our car.
We then went to the Lighthouse to pick up ground beef, as Hayden, the oldest, had requested meatloaf with mashed potatoes, so that was our dinner. We also stopped at Linda and Ron's because the girls wanted to see their cats, Poochie and Hops. We talked with them for awhile, got to pet the cats, then went home to enjoy the day.
We mostly spend the afternoon outside, enjoying the sun, Evie kayaking with Halle, though Hayden spent a good part inside, in her bedroom, reading her book. She loves to read, can get lost in her book easily, so that you have to almost force her to go outside if it's a good book. Around 5:00, we went for a cruise over to Bemus and back and both girls got to drive the boat, which they loved, especially Hayden as she got to sit in the captain's seat by herself. She is becoming very independent, wants to do things on her own, and HER WAY. It's a bit of a shock, as grandparents, to see that your granddaughter doesn't always want to do things your way, that she has a mind of her own. Get used to it!
For dinner, Hayden had two helpings of meatloaf, Halle dabbled as usual, waiting for dessert and we all enjoyed the fresh corn, still sweet and delicious. Dinner was al fresco, of course, and after, we walked up the hill, Hayden and I talking most of the way, Evie and Halle following, gabbing as well. Peaches and ice cream for dessert, some Olympics, mostly gymnastics before bed, and the day ended.
