Dining At The Firefly Grill |
Well, as I looked outside our Hampton Inn this morning, it was fittingly raining as we had rain most of our drive yesterday, at least through all of Ohio and much of Indiana. Let's hope it lets up some as we arrive in Kansas City.
Good Morning, Effingham |
There's not much to say about our drive yesterday, all nine and a half hours of it. We left the lake at 7:00, just as it was starting to drizzle. I drove for the first couple of hours until we stopped at Mickey D's for breakfast on #271. It always amazes me how flat our drive west becomes once we get to Columbus and drive west through vast fields, just beginning to be turned and ready for spring planting. I bought gas for $3.48 just as we were leaving Ohio, by far the cheapest we found so far. It's $4.19 in Chautauqua. We then had one more stop for lunch as we drove through rain and banks of trucks in Indiana and Illinois until we reached the promised land, the Illinois version of Breezewood, PA, Effingham, with 65 restaurants and at least 32+ hotels. We checked into our Hampton around 3:30, Central Time, and relaxed until 6:00, exhausted from sitting in our car for over nine hours.
Trucking Hell On #70 West |
We have a favorite restaurant which we visit each time we stay called the Firefly Grill. It's just down the street from our Hampton so it's convenient. It was warm enough, 70º, for people to sit outside on their porches but we chose the bar, of course. It ain't cheap as you can get a good 16oz steak for sixty-eight bucks. We chose soup, salad, and toasted bread which was just right. We had a beer, watched the NBA playoffs, and didn't get a chance to meet anyone as there was only one other couple at the bar although the restaurant was fairly busy.
We were home by 7:30 and fought to stay awake until 9:15, barely making it before we turned off the lights and went to sleep for the night. I woke early, at 3:30 but was able to get back to sleep until 6:00, 7:00 Eastern Time.
