It's a slate-gray morning at 7:03 and I have been up since 6:20, waiting for some light to add color to the lake and sky. It's still chilly, 37º, and rain or sleet is expected later in the day. At the moment, the lake is inviting, a vast piece of slate, not a ripple with dabs of whiteness in the gray sky. It's 9:00 as I finish this after a good hour paddle down to Bootey Bay and back. It was a great morning for photographing, as I shot not only loons and wood ducks, but my first osprey of the year and gulls.

Yesterday was a day organized around our getting a second booster shot at 11:30.  I did get in a good hour-long paddle in the morning and we were able to get a few things done before we drove to Mayville's Rite Aid for our shots.  We had to sign up online, make an appointment, and it was surprising to see we were the only ones signed up for Friday. I guess that's typical for our county, one of the least vaccinated in the state. We needed four pieces of identification and we were in and out in ten minutes. On the way home, we stopped at The Lighthouse Grocery for a chicken salad hoagie, making lunch easy and tasty.

The afternoon was bizarre as it would rain or sleet one moment and the sun and blue skies would come out the next,  This happened on and off all afternoon, making it less than desirable to get in a walk.  So we both stayed in, watching the changing weather, some TV or reading a book.  If I remember correctly, I did get in a nap but am not sure.

We had a happy hour with good cheese, crackers, and pretzels, until dinner, the leftover pork Wienerschnitzel, and fried potatoes. Our only dilemma was whether to have it with apple sauce or make sandwiches, with mayo and tomatoes.  The apple sauce won out.  We watched the usual, Colbert and Jeopardy and ended the night with the fifth episode of Pachinko on Apple TV+. And we were fortunate to have few if any symptoms from our Covid booster.
