Baby, It's Cold Outside

It Takes A Village

8:23

The sky has finally lightened enough so I can see at least 21 ice fishermen scattered along the shoreline of Long Point at 7:10. They are a hearty crew as it's a frigid 15º at the moment, with a decent wind. We received another inch or two of snow overnight, and it looks like the frigid temperatures will be with us for the next couple of days.

Friday whizzed by for some reason.  We both slept in some which was nice,  so we did not get started with a few chores until 9:30, the joy of retirement I guess, not having to head to work early.  We knew it was getting colder so we decided on a short morning hike.  We drove over to the Marina and got out the snowshoes and cross country skies, and trekked out to the tip of Long Point and back, barely a mile but because of the wind, it was enough for the day. We met a couple of dog walkers, in fact, we see a lot of them lately as they seem to have discovered the Long Point Trails since the virus arrived.

Snowshoeing While Masked (for warmth) at Long Point

Happy With Wind At Their Backs

We were happy to get home in our warm house after the bitter cold.  I finished up the soup for lunch and Evie made ham and egg sandwiches on a toasted bagel.  I watched my show, napped and then drove to Jamestown for a routine doctor's appointment and a blood test.  Most of the labs have closed around here so I had to go to the hospital for the blood test and it took a good hour to get the test done. I was able to drop a few Amazon packages off at the UPS store in Jamestown and bring home our dinner from the Tokyo/Bejing restaurant in Jamestown.

I didn't get home until 5:00 and was more than ready to relax with a glass of wine, enjoy dusk and listen to the news on Sonos.  Around 6:30, Evie heated up our dinner, for me, Udon noodles with seafood, for Evie, Mango Chicken with fried rice.  Earlier, we heated up some eggrolls from Wegman's, so we had a tasty dinner although I have to say, I miss eating out.  Take-outs are just not the same as indoor dining,. We watched a Colbert with the guys from Pod Save America, always entertaining.  We then watched a new film just released on Netflix called The White Tiger, based on the novel by Aravind Adiga, a novel set in modern India that I read and taught in 2008 when it came out.  It's worth watching for his damning portrait of the dichotomy between 'the haves and have nots' in India.  We ended the night with another amusing Better Things on Hulu.
