A Blur Of Sun

Finally, On The Lake
7:44
8:09
Well, it's 7:48 and a part of the sun peaked out of the gray for a few seconds, then went back to hiding on a blanket of gray and rising fog.  A few guys are out ice fishing, nothing like yesterday when they spread out for miles, up and down the lake.

Vastness Of Chautauqua Lake
Sunday was much warmer than Saturday, in the thirties, not single digits.  We had our usual Sunday morning, in no hurry because we were not going anywhere.  I wanted to ski some ane wondered if the lake would be good.  So after our coffee and writing the blog, I went out on the ice and found it was perfect for cross country skiing, no frozen skis, warm enough so that I worked up quite a sweat skiing down to Wells Bay and back.  I was out for close to an hour, the only one skiing on the ice among many ice fishing shacks.  It felt good to be back out there, on this wide expanse of white, not quite Antarctica but in my mind, close enough, especially when I look north towards Mayville, ten miles away.

When I came in, Evie was finishing up a banana cream pie, dessert for tonight's dinner with our friends, Linda and Ron.  l had in my mind a Turkish omelet called a menemen, basically sauteed tomatoes, eggs, feta cheese, and Turkish spices.  It sounded good too Evie so she put it together as I cleaned up the kitchen.  Its been made better recently because we are starting to buy our feta from a local grocery store which sells it in bulk from Greece, quite a difference from Wegman's feta.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning of course, then relaxed early afternoon.  Evie had most of the dinner prepped by then, so it was good to have most of the dinner done.

I read, finished my book THE MUSE, the around 4:00, pulled the two racks of lamb for dinner out of the refrigerator and cleaned them up, taking up the skin and a layer of fat.  Earlier in the morning, we made a marinade of rosemary, dijon mustard, garlic, and olive oil.  We spread it over the lamb and let it sit until it was time to roast it.

Sunday Dinner
Linda and Ron arrived at 6:00, bearing gifts, a bottle of wine and a candle.  We quickly opened Blue Moons, added orange slices and moved to the living room.  We had cashews for an appetizer and a cup of lentil soup, warming and tasty.  I put the lamb in the upper oven, the Greek lemon potatoes in the bottom and let both roast for close to a half-hour because the lamb took longer than I thought.  We let the lamb sit for ten minutes and I then carved it into lamb chops and dinner was ready.  It was quite a Sunday feast, the lamb, Greek lemon potatoes, ratatouille, and salad.  We finished the evening in the living room with pie, banana cream with whipped cream, chopped nuts and chocolate/caramel sauce dribbled over the top.  Yum.  Lind aand Ron left around 9:30 and Evie and I thought we might let the dishes soak but ended up washing and drying all of them. so that we could wake up to a clean kitchen.  We are getting or have always been anal, not leaving a few for this morning.
