I was up just before 6:00, sleeping in for me lately. I was surprised at how stuffy the house was in comparison to the nice cool air on the front porch. So I opened all the windows to cool off the inside. For a few minutes, the sun's rising was so bright I had to leave the porch but now, the clouds have blocked its rays and I am back on the front porch. I was able to get in a brief paddle, before returning to a brief breakfast of bagels with Ellen and Walt before they left for home.

Kayak Morning |
Yesterday was made memorable by the storm, dropping a couple of inches of rain in a half-hour, filling the lake with mud from the road, very concerning. I started the day, however, with a fine paddle, a partly cloudy sky, long enough, to work up a sweat. When I returned, everyone was on the front porch, drinking coffee, trying to decide what to do with the day. Around 9:30, Evie put together a 'big breakfast, home fries, bacon, fried eggs, bagels, and avocados. We decided then to go for a boat ride because the weather app said it would not rain until 1:00. So we took off around 11:00, heading north towards the CI and an increasingly dark sky. By the time we got to Prendergast Point, it was clear the weatherman was wrong and we headed back, finally hurrying as the clouds quickly filled the lake. It started to drizzle as we got off the boat and by the time we were settled on the porch, it began to rain 'cats and dogs', whatever that cliche means. The yards were flooded as were the roads, and we had to pull down the curtain on the porch. When you are comfortable on a porch during the storm, it's kind of nice, reminding me for some reason of storms on the Gowdy farm's porch when I was a kid.

Wally Cooling Off |
We sat around filling the quiet with the never-ending talk of our grandkids, my sister Ellen hogging the spotlight with photos of her first grandchild, Anna. I have to admit she is a doll. Around 2:00, I left to take the trash to the Transfer Station. Saturday's never change in that I always have to hit the Transfer Station. When I returned, my sister Linda and Rich, headed home to Euclid. So we were four and the sun actually came out mid-afternoon so the rest of us were able to get in some sun time. It was actually hot on the dock and we needed lots of sunscreen and hats. We cooled off with a swim around 5:30 and then gussied up for a drive over to Bemus Point. We found rocking chairs on the Lenhart Hotel's front porch and enjoyed a beer, watching the lake and the parade of visitors. Wings at the Casino has always been a tradition with our family and my sister Ellen wanted to go there for dinner. It was packed, as crowded as I have ever seen it but we were able to get a table. About fifteen minutes later, there was a line of ten waiting for tables. It took a while to get waited on but it was worth it, as the wings and beer were great. We walked around Bemus after the wings before getting our car, parked in the boat launching parking lot because Bemus was so crowded.
We had wanted to get ice cream in Bemus but the line at the ice cream stand was twenty people long so we settled for French vanilla ice cream with blueberries and strawberries on our front porch, compliments of Evie and it was a good choice. We sat outside till almost 10:30, when we face-timed Ellen's daughter Julia and watched one year old Anna smile and giggle and take her first steps, a cutie. Around 10:45, we were in bed, tired from a fun day.
