A Heavy Fog Morning

6:07
It's just before 7:00, I have been up since 6:00, watching Long Point appear, then disappear behind the fog.  I have yet to hear a bass boat, see a skier, just a few martin songs, on a 54º morning.  Once the fog lifts, it should be a sunny, warm day.  I hope to kayak but at the moment, at 7:15 I cannot see beyond the dock.  It's 8:30 and I was able to kayak for forty minutes, hugging the shoreline because of the heavy fog which never lifted, obscuring Long and Tom's Point, my usual destinations.

Fishing In The Fog
Yesterday was a carbon copy of Saturday, weather-wise, with sun and a nice breeze most of the day.  Everyone seemed to be outside or on the lake, taking advantage of the great weather.  I paddled over to Warner Bay and back, what else to do in the early morning.  After our coffee, we decided to drive to the CI and take a walk around the grounds, hoping again to see an acquaintance from the blog but they were not home so Evie left a note and our phone number.  As usual, the grounds were crowded with residents and visitors pouring into the amphitheater for the church service with full choir and organ at 10:45.  We listened briefly before continuing our walk, working up a sweat because of the 80º weather.  We walked just about two miles and had parked outside the CI on a side street.  We then drove to a desolate Mayville, a small town filled with empty storefronts, stopped at Tops and picked up a couple of New York strip steaks for dinner.

We were home around 12:30 and Evie got busy making our breakfast, eggs, bacon and toast and we sat on the front porch, enjoying the meal.  Evie was quick to get back out on the dock and I watched some of the Wimbledon finals but fell asleep, as planned, for a good hour.  Mid-afternoon I joined Evie who had been busy cutting weeds.  We are the only crazies on the lake I think.

Around 5:00, I made teriyaki marinade for the steaks and Evie roasted some eggplant and made a sauce for baked ziti, which she will freeze and pull out sometime during our kids visit.  Evie also sauteed some mushrooms, before grilling the steaks inside.  Dinner was great, the steaks reminding me of our days in Honolulu when our neighbor told us how he cooked steaks, always in a garlic, ginger and soy marinade.  We also had a salad and baked potatoes so I was happy, starch and greens.  We watched the second episode of the first season of BIG LITTLE LIES, waiting in anticipation for the fifth episode of Season Two at 9:00 on HBO.  We were not disappointed as the episode ended with a great surprise, so we now cannot wait for next week when Celeste gets her groove back.
