7:57 |
It's just about 8:00 and the lake is a blank canvas as Long Point has disappeared and all that's visible on this canvas of white is our tree and flag. It's warmer, however, a toasty 28º, as the 71 days of winter slide towards spring. What a contrast to yesterday's cold but sunny day.

Shiver Me Timbers |
Yesterday was a typical Sunday in some ways, the big breakfast, the football games, but different in that we stayed in despite the amazing day of bright sun and blue skies. Everyone who could was outside, numerous fishermen, some cross-country skiers, despite the single-digit temperatures. We were envious, wishing we too could get out there, too. We had our typical long coffee time, listening to the news before deciding to shear the sheep, in other words, Evie was going to give me a much needed haircut. So we set up the TV room and Evie gave me a good trim, getting out the vacuum afterward to clean up the white hair. I took a shower, came out feeling like a new man, actually a young boy. Nothing like a shower to pick up your spirits. Evie then did some cleaning up and I got back to my Jack Reacher book until around 12:30 when Evie had put together another great Sunday breakfast, the type with home fries (sprinkled with cheese), bacon, fried eggs and a bagel. We started out watching the Bills game but it was so boring after about 20 minutes that we went back to our usual Sunday show, CBS Sunday Morning, a good choice.

Gearing Up |
We spent the rest of the afternoon in a leisurely fashion, often taking photographs of the lake action because it was such a great day out with lots of fishermen, people out walking, the lake busy as we have seen it this winter. I went upstairs and quickly fell asleep for a good hour. I came down refreshed. We did not have to worry much about dinner because pizza sounded good and we already had some frozen. After the bore of the Buffalo Bill's game and loss, I watched the next NFL game which was fun and cut back and forth between it and Ohio State's great defeat of No. 1 Michigan State in basketball.
Around 6:30, we had dinner, pizza, a salad and a Pepsi. It hit the spot. We watched a couple more episodes of Season Four of A PLACE TO CALL HOME, not our favorites, then spent the rest of the evening watching the Golden Globes. We did not realize how out of it we were as we have not seen any of the nominated movies. We had, however, seen The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Big Little Lies, both well deserving of winning Golden Globes. I stayed up long enough to hear Oprah's acceptance speech, so moving and thoughtful that both of us wondered if she might be considering a Presidential run. Who knows.
