No Snow. . . Yet

7:42

8:20
It's after 8:00 and I have been awake for over an hour, to a gray, gray morning, lake and sky.  There's a solitary guy out fishing in the middle of the lake.  And I have heard gun shots occasionally.  Duck hunting this early in the year?  It's 33º but we are expecting a snowstorm over the next three days, up to a foot or more of snow to fall.

Fishing  On Thin Ice Off Of Tom's Point
Yesterday, to use a 1980's politically incorrect term these days, was 'coyote ugly.'  Gray, dark skies, rain, lots of mud and dirty snow on the sides of the road.  Who would want to go out in this kind of weather. US.  Not to hike, however, but to fill the coffers to get ready for the next lake effect snow fall.  We were in no hurry, however, as Evie, ever the organizer and cleaner, wanted to get some things done.  So we left around 11:00 and drove through a light rain to Wegman's, a busy place because of it being 5% off day for retirees.  I went to Home Depot, briefly, to pick up a 3 way light bulb while Evie shopped.  I then took my list and went to Wegman's and quickly filled it.  Then the fun began; I did not bring my phone so I could not phone Evie to find out where in the store she happened to be.  So I literally walked up and down the aisles three or four times before I was able to find her.  Amazing how she can disappear in Wegman's or I am blind.

We got lots of good things for our annual ham dinner with Linda and Ron on Thursday evening, weather permitting.  Nothing like a good spiral sliced ham.  When we got home, we heated up the pizza and lentil soup and made the mistake of watching an episode of Jack Taylor, a drunkard and disgraced policeman.  What we thought was at the most an hour series ended up being an hour and a half, basically ruining the afternoon for getting anything done.

Late Afternoon Fishing Off Of Long Point
Dinner, fortunately was easy, leftover pork chops and garlic spinach, so we were able to have a leisurely wine time before having dinner at 7:00.  I had read somewhere about a movie called AMERICAN HONEY.  It was one someone's best of 2016 list, so I requested the DVD from Netflix and we watched it, a mistake.  First, it was exceptionally long (163 minutes to be exact), seemed to go on forever.  And the story, if there was one, followed a teenage girl, seemingly alone and lost, who joins a band of merry pranksters.  There modus operandi is to drive around the States in a van and sell magazine subscriptions to the gullible public, partying, drinking, hooking up and smoking grass.  It was not our favorite movie and we stuck with it just to see if there was an end.  It was a joy, almost a release to have it over so we could go up to bed.

As I finish my blog at 8:30, the sky has changed from gray and foggy, to some brightness, a few hints of sun and blue sky (above), back to gray and foggy (below).  Ah, the mutability of Chautauqua Lake weather.
