When I woke up at 5:45, it was a frigid 9º outside, a record low so far this winter. Now, at 7:40, it's a toasty 11º with a rosy sky off to the south. The fishing tents are settled off of Long Point despite the cold. And it's a beautiful dawn sky, making it worth getting up so early.

Yesterday, surprisingly, was cold but we only received a few inches of snow in contrast to cities north of us and towards Buffalo that got 20-30 inches, as much as four inches an hour. Yesterday was a busy day in some ways, a day of large leisure in others. I, for example, did not accomplish much. I neither hiked nor skied. My only activity was braving it early and going to breakfast at the Bemus Point Inn. The rest of the day was the usual, reading a few chapters of Michael Lewis's new book, THE UNDOING PROJECT, having lunch, watching some TV and taking a nap. Evie, however, was her busy self, prepping dinner as our friends, Ron and Linda were coming over for dinner.

The main course was simple because we had bought a spiral sliced ham a couple of weeks ago and it's become tradition for them to come over for a ham dinner. But we wanted to make it a somewhat throw back dinner. So we picked out a couple of our families favorite dishes from the 1960's ad 1970's, a pretzel, cream cheese and jello salad, my Mom's go to jello salad. And to compliment the ham, we went with a healthy option, heavenly hash brown, a mixture of frozen hash browns, sour cream, butter and cheese. How could it not be good. So putting these together gave Evie something to do and measuring her day. I was surprised that neither of us did anything outside. We thought briefly about cross country skiing but quickly forgot about it. Maybe today.

| Dinner With Linda And Ron |
We were a little worried about the weather, that we might have to cancel dinner but fortunately only snow flurries fell during most of the early evening, making driving easier. Linda and Ron arrived around 6:15 and stayed until 9:45. We have not had them over in a couple of months so it was nice to share a meal with them. And dinner was just what we asked for; most went back for ham seconds on ham, the heavenly hash browns, as well as the jello salad. I have to admit I loved the jello salad; it took me way back to my high school days, to family gatherings, when jello salads were tres chic. We ended the evening sitting around the fireplace in our newly arranged seating area. Everyone loved it.
When they left, Evie cleared and put away things while I washed up the dishes. A fun night.
