Sunday Rains, Heavy Winds

It's past 8:00 and I have NPR on the radio, am on my second cup of coffee and Evie is just getting up. I hear gun shots off in the distance, duck hunters no doubt.  It's an unseasonably warm day, 45º, but the temperatures will drop later in the day as the winds pick up.

Yesterday was a dud, a depressing day though it started out well.  We were happy and organized early, Evie putting together some cookie dough, me getting the trash ready to take to the Transfer Station. The day, however, began to fall apart when we decided to combine some grocery shopping with looking for a new refrigerator.  Yes, we need a new one; our present refrigerator won't make ice and freezes the vegetables.  Not so cool.  So, we went off to Lakewood, spending the first the hour at Sears, with a very helpful salesperson.  Our choices are limited because we don't want a refrigerator with a water/ice maker in the door.  We settled on a model, which had the size and space we liked but it was not an LG or Samsung but a Frigidaire.  The price was good, we vacillated whether to take the plunge but decided at the last moment to check out Home Depot.  We could always go back to Sears later in the day and, as luck would have it, the sale would end at the end of the day.  So, we went off to Home Depot, also found a helpful salesperson, and picked out a LG we kind of liked but they did not have a floor model so we had to look at it on line.  It was much more expensive then the Frigidaire but was, according to the salesperson, the best brand out there.  So we thought and vacillated, finally taking his advice to go on line and see what customers said about the models.  It was good advice but depressing as everyone seemed to think the Frigidaire was a bad choice, less so the LG but neither of them seemed to promise a reliable choice.  By the time we got through many of the reviews, we packed it up and said we would never shop for a refrigerator again (until next week probably).  Why is it so hard to make a decision. to find a good refrigerator?  Was it always this way? No because in the past, we just bought one on trust; we had no idea if it was a good refrigerator or not because we did not have access to reviews.  We just listened to the salesperson's spiel and bought one.  And ours lasted for 16 years without a problem.  So we will wait until we get fed up with frozen vegetables and eventually pull the trigger and live with our choice.

By the time we got home, after shopping at Wegman's it was 2:30 and both of us were tired and depressed and both of our plans to get some exercise fell by the wayside,  We wasted much of the afternoon, then around 4:30, as the NFL game came on (yeah  Chiefs!), we completely lost it and got out the chips, dip, and a Pepsi.  Bring on the unhealthy life of junk food and TV watching.  That lasted until about 7:00 when Evie, having roasted some eggplant earlier in the day, combined it with a tomato meat sauce, boiled some noodles and we had a good eggplant pasta dinner, though we were still somewhat loggy from chips and dip.

We decided to see what all the fuss was about on Netflix's MAKING A MURDERER. It's a documentary about a guy who spent 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, then a few years later, when he decided to sue the state of Wisconsin, for 36 million, he is arrested and charged with the murder of a female photographer.  Her car, keys and remains are found on the suspect's property.  This 10 part documentary, which took 10 years to make, traces the lives of all those involved in these two crimes, families, police, lawyers, prosecutors and district attorneys, from 1984 until the present..  It is riveting and we ended up watching the first two episodes, look forward to seeing more today.  At the moment, the suspect seems guilty of the murderer, at least the evidence points that way.
