Chautauqua In White

Winter's back, as we got six inches of snow last night and the 40º temperatures have been replaced by this mornings 12º.  I cannot say I am unhappy.  It's beautiful out at the moment, a clear rouge sky to the south, with a large gaggle of geese feeding and dark, threatening skies to the north.  Who will win out, the clear skies or the dark?  And a raft of buffleheads just cruised by, about 15 feet from our lake wall.  There must be close to a hundred geese, ducks and seagulls roaming in front of our houses.

Aggressive Sea Gulls
Yesterday was not the typical Sunday, of a walk around the Chautauqua Institution.  We did have a relaxing morning, just sitting around, listening to Weekend Sunday.  Evie wanted to get a workout in before the weather got bad, supposedly around 2:00, so she went off to the gym.  Because it was raining, I decided to go to Turner Gym and shoot some baskets.  Unfortunately, my Honda Pilot's muffler is loose, so I had to turn around and head home.  More car bills coming up.  That's what I get for having three cars!  Luckily, the rain stopped, so I was able to get a good hike in through our woods, Woodlawn/Victoria, and it was wet but I never did get a soaker...remember gettting soakers when you were a child?

Sunday Afternoon, Before the Snow
Evie did not get back till around 1:00 and hustled into the kitchen, to get both our breakfast and dinner going.  We were having Ina Garten's chicken and biscuits for dinner, so she roasted the chicken breasts in the oven while making eggs, bacon, potato pancakes from leftover mashed potatoes, and bagels.  I loved it of course, especially the potato pancakes with eggs.  We watched Sunday Morning, loved it of course, the best show on network TV.

The rest of the afternoon we watched some football, of course, and grieved with the Viking fans when their kicker missed a chip shot to win the game.  And we broke a rule and watched an episode of Netflix's riveting MAKING A MURDERER.  At this point, we are appalled by both the police and one of the defendant's lawyers misconduct, both assuming the guilt of Stephen Avery and his nephew.  This is much watch TV folks.  Unbelieveable.

Dinner was one pot, chicken and biscuits and a salad, as we waited for the Golden Globes to come on, by watching more, what else, football.  Just as we were going to watch the Golden Globes, our electricity went off and we were left in the dark.  We struggled to find our candles, flashlights, blankets, expecting the worst before settling down in front of our fireplace to read.  Around 9:00, the lights went back on, and we were happy to return to the TV room to watch the awards.  Most of our favorites won nothing, the shows we were not familiar with, won all the awards.  And so it goes.  We did not go to bed until 11:30, late for us.

Not sure what today will bring, whether I will bag yoga to go for a hike in the snowy woods.  For sure, we will be out shoveling our driveway, probably a couple of times because 5-7 inches are forecast for later in the day.
